Goodbye Blue Sky: When You See This Plane Buzz Downtown Monday, Don't Run Like Hell

What you see above is one of the Environmental Protection Agency's AeroCommander 680s, which the agency uses to sniff air quality via Airborne Spectral Photographic Environmental Collection Technology. (I dunno.) Which I mention only because the Dallas Police Department just sent this heads-up well in advance of a flyover scheduled for Monday morning:
On Monday, January 24, 2011, between approximately 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., there will be several low-altitude flyovers of central Dallas, including downtown, by an EPA airplane. The purpose of the flyovers is to conduct an environmental survey of Dallas in preparation for the Super Bowl. The airplane, which will be clearly marked, is similar to the one shown below. The flyovers have the approval of the Federal Aviation Administration and the State of Texas.
Which reminds me: For the last forever I've been sitting on this November '87 recording of Pink Floyd at Reunion Arena on the Momentary Lapse of Reason tour, its first sans Roger Waters. Not exactly sure why an item about an airplane in a blue sky reminds me of Pink Floyd. This, maybe? This? No, wait -- this. Submitted for your weekend listening pleasure.

EPA? Really? That's the best they could do? Come ON. It's got to be some kind of anti-terrorist activity.

Well, there were three Chinook helicopters buzzing Collin County yesterday. Three big earth shaking, windows rattling, structure vibrating monsters which made me proud. Although -- why were they flying over? And at such low altitude?

They're probably training flights out of Ft. Hood. We see a lot of them in south Dallas County.

If you're within sound of my voice, get thee to the Kessler and buy a Ruby Jane CD. And maybe you'll catch the end of the show. I bought one -- my first CD purchase since I can't remember. It's my weekend listening. Wow.

Yeah, a couple of years back.

Here's a piece Bob Schieffer did on her for CBS News a month ago.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...

And this is from last night:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...

And then she can turn around and do a song like this:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...

She did a TED talk last year too:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...

She's Dallas-born, but presently resides in Austin.

That is one talented young lady. Nice to see someone in that age group not into auto-tuning and pop drivel. She's the same age as Stevie Winwood was when he started making a name for himself with the Spencer Davis Group - I have a feeling we might look back on her with the same kind of awe at the talent she shows at this young age.

Thanks for the heads-up on her!

I take it this is the gentle easing out of the Weekend Listening Pleasure feature? Sad to see it go, guess now is as good a time as any to say thanks for all the great music and for pointing the way to some really good boot sites that at least i hadn't been aware of, my ipod is grateful.
