Yeah, But How Do Good Guys Cast and Creator Matt Nix Feel About Its Chances for a Return?

• Old as snot comment in an older than snot story - but I have to say something. This was the first cop show in a very long time that didn't come as a carbon copy spin-off of a show already on TV. I felt this show really seperated the "I get it!" folks, from the "I have no clue" peeps. The folks who couldn't get passed the cheesey nature of the show and believed it came off cheesey by accident are part of that "I have no clue" crowd. The people who found the unrealistic and over the top at times on crime fighting thinking it was a product of bad writing are, again, part of the "I haven't got a clue" crowd. Having spent a week on the set as the Dan Stark Stand-In - I realized that what they were putting together was a work of genius. A show that that actually allowed the view a chance to escape from the "ripped from today's headlines" drama on TV and toss them back into a world that didn't exist. Who needs to watch CSI when I get the same from the 10 O'Clock News? Are you with me so far? As for the Texas incentive law? No law was broken with this show. It didn't paint "Texas" in a bad light, it didn't even paint "Texans" in bad light. What they were poking fun at was the TJ Hooker days of TV Cop Shows - only taking one 1970s cop show character, and dropping him into modern day society. Sure, stereotyped a bit, but not to paint Texas in a bad light. I can not beleive that anyone would really be offended by Dan Stark. (except for some poor cop somewhere in middle america who also happened to be named - Dan Stark of course, then I can see having an issue with it). The show WAS smart, the show WAS funny, and I agree with another comment here that it needs to be picked up by USA and join Psych on the same night... USA puts these two shows together on the same night? It'd be Must See TV. The reason for the low ratings for Good Guys? Think about it Fox... your primary demographic was 18-32... what demographic is most likely to be home at 9pm Eastern, 8pm Central on a Friday night... Certainly not 18-32... especially if they were single. The move to Friday Nights was a death nail... you should have left it bumped up against House... (but then again, Lie to Me would have had to move... I just can't win can I?)

• Wow, I'm floored. I'm writing in from Vancouver, Canada, and I always thought Texas was a bit more of a rebel than this. What's the deal, eh? Since when is Texas offended by stereotypes? When Texas starts to get self-conscious, the country is in serious trouble. So much of this show is a reflection of society. The scene where Savage and Stark get dressed up and check out their old movie from the 80s sums up where the country is. You guys have forgotten everything. What used to be nobel and just and true is now lame and little more than stale fromage. When the show ended, it was one giant middle finger to the masses. If they don't get it, forget them. Let's go bust some punks. I typically only watch TV from Canada and the UK at this point. Where's George Carlin when you need him? The age of All In the Family, Family Ties, Secret of My Success (starring Canadian Michael J Fox) and Magnum PI is REALLY over. American television and film doesn't portray America as the hero anymore. This show dared to do that. In love with stereotypes? Corny? Sure. But while we're debating how this show reflects on Texans (Alberta beef is better, by the way), we're dumping our kids off with celebrity babysitters and making fools of ourselves when those celebs let the kids down by behaving in the way kids are supposed to behave - stupidly, but not as stupidly as us for neglecting our responsibility. But I forgot - The Good Guys promotes "negative stereotypes" and is cheesy and outdated. Where is the America I looked up to as a kid? At 29, I really don't know anymore. I'm pretty sure you're above all this, but I'm not sure Americans do.

• EVERYONE I know watches this show online due to the crap-tastic time slot. I wonder how they fair online viewings when considering rating. Maybe they could just get away with an online only show *shrug*, I am going to miss it.

• The (incentive) law is the law. It may be a stupid law, but it's still the law that the legislature put in place. Certainly "Machete" was not meant to be taken seriously, either, but that didn't keep the state from denying state incentives to the production based solely on the "negative light" clause in the state incentives law. There's either a law or there isn't. I know Governor Perry likes to have a different set of laws for his friends (accused arsonist David Medina) than for people he doesn't care for (accused arsonist Todd Willingham), so maybe this is just another example of that. But still, there shouldn't be selective enforcement of state law based on how Carol Pirie or whoever feels on any given day.

• This show was a giant love letter to Dallas: a place where the cops always solve the crimes n matter how small, most of the criminals are from other places, and the lively downtown is packed with pedestrians (and explosions). I have little faith that Fox will restore it to the summer show it needs to be but I'll be first in line to buy the series on blu-ray.

• I love the show -- hope they find a way to keep it going. I really don't think it portrays Dallas in a negative light as it is obviously not a show meant to be taken so seriously. Perfect show to just unwind with, and really fills an otherwise empty niche on tv these days.

• I have been thinking that this show would be a PERFECT fit on USA. It's really in line with shows like Psych. As for the incentive thing, I imagine it's hard to do a cop show in Texas without portraying SOME people in a negative light. Otherwise, it's just two guys driving around. The whole "Machete" thing, as far as I understand it, came from an irrational collective right-wing freakout after Rodriguez released a joke/fake trailer linking the movie illegal immigration. "miraculous Giefre" (as in, "Oh miraculous Giefre, let The Good Guys stay on the air.")

• Ive caught up on every episode on HULU recently, its an amazingly great show, something thats rare for TV today that isnt a brain buster or some sort of socio-political rant about modern society, it harkens back to a day when television was...dare I say...fun. If Fox(Network) doesn't bring this back, I see a future for the show on FX or even USA, as Matt Nix already has proven himself w/ Burn Notice...

• I like the show okay. I just wonder about the incentives since the incentives law says incentives may be denied if the production shows Texans in a negative light, and aside from the Dan Stark goofiness, the show does frequently portray Texans as criminals (including an episode with a corrupt state senator). It would seem like selective enforcement of those incentive requirements if "The Good Guys" receives incentives despite portraying Texans in a negative light while a movie like "Machete" is denied state incentives.

• Can't get past the bad accents forced on enjoyable actors like Gary Cole. I'd rather here him in full Lumbergh than what I heard the other night. I think the viewing nation has bad, fake Texas accent fatigue. I don't recall Shatner and Spader employing bad Boston accents.

• I really do hope that they pick this show up for another season, but they probably won't. Reason being, I like it. Shows that I like rarely last beyond a season, if that. When it first started airing, I mainly watched it because it was filmed around my neighborhood. However, after a few episodes, it started to grow on me. In my opinion, Dan Stark is easily one of the funniest characters on TV. I never thought the show portrayed Dallas in a bad light. I, for one, will be keeping my fingers crossed for its return.

• I'm not sure what alternate show critics think would have been less offensive to the grand city of Dallas. CSI Dallas? Another Dallas cheerleader/debutante reality show? Leppert & Palin stopping abortions Amazing Race style? Schutze & Wilonsky hosting Mythbusters Dallas? The New & Improved Jerry Jones Show? Keep on bustin those punks, Dan Stark

• Maybe I am alone in this but I just didn't think it was very good, bordering on awful. I thought it played into horribly inaccurate and negative stereotypes about Dallas that I think we have been fairly successful in changing for the past decade or so and it felt like pure lowest common denominator. It was like it was trying to be smart and ironic but at the same time felt it's audience was too stupid to get it so in the end it felt so muttered and confused that neither party would be happy. I say good riddance, that the show itself reflected so poorly on our city that it negated any benefit we might have received from the exposure, on the bright side I think it has shown once again that television production in Dallas is viable, we just need the right show to come along. Oh, also, all of you, I know you like filming in Greenwood Cemetery but unless you are going to be the least bit considerate of the two residential buildings on Oak Grove, stop filming here or at least warn us and maybe put some coffee and scones in the lobby

• Does this show get state incentives despite routinely portraying Texans in a negative light?

• This show is consistently entertaining and we love watching it. I cannot fathom why Fox parked it on Fridays (notoriously bad for ratings).
