Dallas Can Go Ahead and Forget About Fort Worth Ditching That $25-Mil Streetcar Grant

• The environmental accesment and design is done to meet the 25 million. All that has to be done is the coucils vote to start building it, and to start building it. • The Mayor stated at the last meeting that the drop dead decision date to comply with the Feds will be the December 7th city council meeting. The project being perceived as a political hot potato, the council called for a city-wide townhall to be held December 2nd at the convention center so they can stick their thumbs in the wind and tell which way the political will is blowing.

• I was going to say the same thing. Dallas has to put its streetcar project on the super-duper fast track in order to make its 2013 deadline. So how come Ft. Worth has enough time to have town hall meetings? What about environmental assessments, design, streetcar production, etc.? Are they on a different timeline than we are?

• That is a streetcar from the Portland Oregon system. The feds set the time line and it sounds like FW isn't much if any closer to meeting it based on what they are showing and saying right now. They might have every intention on going forward but they have to meet the feds deadlines and it doesn't sound like they are any closer to doing so, even if they borrowed a car from another system for a photo-op.
