At N. Central and Walnut Hill, Plans to Replace Moonscape with "First-Class Development"

• @Sanguine, Did you notice if the buses in the parking lot were empty of children but idling? They usually are, which wastes gas and adds to pollution. That's my pet peeve. I can't imagine why there would be a field trip to Northpark, but nothing in DISD (and public education in general) surprises me anymore. Saddens me, yes; surprises me, no. difyinit neglect. how appropriate...

• Also--sorry--, but I have to add this: We're losing nature because people HAVE to sprawl into suburbs to escape DISD. If someone--anyone--would monitor the flow of tax dollars currently being bathed in by the corrupt incompetents running DISD into the ground, we wouldn't have sprawl. HP is high-density and people aren't desparate to leave. Why? The schools are good. Tax money isn't seen as a source for personal/corporate enrichment.

• @DISD Teacher - Not to get off topic, but your mention of field trips (or lack thereof) reminded me of a question I have been asking for the past couple of weeks: At what point did schools start taking field trips to the mall? I haven't been to NorthPark around lunch time that there hasn't been tons of high school kids there with their buses parked outside. They aren't performing (like during the holidays), they are just hanging out. Is this educational in some way? Am I now an official old person, complaining about "kids these days"?

• I prefer the moonscape to blighted buildings like the apts that were there. As is, the site actually has educational value: kids learn about succession in science--where nature starts with a blank slate and adds grasses, then shrubs, then trees (and then maybe coyotes!). Now that grasses have taken over, it would be neat to take DISD kids there to study each stage. (Or it would be neat if DISD didn't discourage field trips). I also like RW or JS's comment on another thread about being haunted by the picture of the coyotes and how it's nice to sometimes just let nature be. I loved that picture as well.

• Walmart, no (because Timbercreek is getting one too close to this). A Costco, however, would do well in this area.
