Frank Librio, the fine PIO at Dallas City Hall, just sent word: The city's introducing E-Alerts today, intended to keep locals "connected to City Hall," which I assume isn't some kind of a threat. Says the memo, all you gotta do is go to the city's website, where, at the top right-hand corner, you'll see the bug above. Type in your e-mail address, and, voila, you're all set to receive the latest and greatest in releases, notices and myriad other missives concerning council briefings, the Trinity River Corridor Project or picnics at Mayor Tom's house.

Here's what City Manager Mary Suhm says about the set-up: "The City of Dallas has made open government a priority. "We are excited about this new feature as further example of our ongoing efforts to increase public input and involvement in government." For some reason, I signed up. I do not know why.
