But replays showed that Nick Swisher was actually hit by the pitch -- it bounced in the dirt, hit his shin, changed direction, and scooted past catcher Bengie Molina. Swisher, who was also hit in Game 4 but was not awarded first base, continued to bat and grounded out to the pitcher. The next batter, Jorge Posada, doubled to right. The Yankees had only two base runners the rest of the way."

Dan: As a long-time member of Red Sox Nation and big Texas Rangers fan, I couldn't agree more. As a lover of baseball I win both ways. And watching A-Rod standing at the plate as the last pitch sailed past him was poetic justice. Go Rangers! And good tidings to all in New England!
As a longtime fan, I am beginning to cautiously think that the Rangers have a chance of being in the World Series this year.
Thank you Ron Washington! Time to get into the James Brown catalog as a tip of the cap to the 'Old School Brotha.' I'd start with "Payback" (to the Yankees) and follow that up with "the Good Foot." (to commence the World Series) Then we need to all get together and "Say it loud, I'm black I'm proud!"

For all the hardcore Rangers fans, how does this compare to the '06 Mavs Western conference clinch? As good as this feels, I think like the Mavs series this will hurt badly if they lose the World Series. The Rangers won't be considered a clear underdog to whichever NL team wins, and especially not the Giants where they'll easily be favored. I think they'll be a trendy pick over Philly too if they can comeback in the NLCS. Let's face it, folks: the Rangers have probably already knocked off the two best teams in the postseason (NYY and TBB being in the superior league and the best division in the game). The little red shoed Rangers have a real chance at this thing.

@GreggoWhereArtThou? Newy called in to the Fan postgame and said he asked Chuck Greenberg if Tom Hicks was getting a ring if the Rangers win the WS. Chuck responded "NOOOOOOO!!!!" I don't know if that's actually true, but I think it's pretty clear there's bad blood between the two. Newy also said some Rangers higher ups he wouldn't name went up and thanked him for going off on Hicks on a recent show. Apparently he's disliked from those running the team about as much as the fans. All that being said, I think Hicks deserves a ring. He's a cheap bastard but he brought JD here and didn't fire him when some others may have after the bumpy first year or two. He also hired Nolan. The Rangers wouldn't be here without those additions.
From the days of Pete Broberg,Joe Lovitto and Elliot Maddox to tonight, a night I seriously never thought would come. What a long, strange trip it's been.

It speaks volumes of the lifelong Rangers fan: Merely reaching the World Series is catharsis enough. At least, for now. The what-ifs and so-closes will come; the Rangers are still four wins from a title, the first. But for now, this will do. Finally. <em>Finally</em>.
It's been such a hard climb, but it is soooo worth it. This is the most compelling sports story in DFW history.
