Tomorrow Night, It's Lights Out For the Original Studio Movie Grill in Addison

My old pal Tearlach Hutcheson just called to say the Studio Movie Grill has decided to shutter its first location, the original Addison outpost on Belt Line Road. Matter of fact, after 12 years in operation, it's closing tomorrow night -- right after the last reel of the last screening of Eat Pray Love.

Hutcheson, the director of marketing and formerly a longtime Landmark man, says the decision to close the Addison location wasn't easy -- it was, he reminds, the one owner and founder Brian Schultz more or less "built by hand." But Hutcheson says the company has outgrown the facility, which has but five screens -- three fewer than the multiplexes on Royal Lane and N. Central and in Plano.

"We can't keep up with the business and the number of films being released into the marketplace," he tells Unfair Park. "As we develop as a company, and as we start expanding what we're doing and where we're going, the facility just can't handle the kind of business we need to be putting through there. We need locations that can handle more movies and more movie titles, which is what the public wants. But this was not an easy decision."
