Ralph Isenberg to Ask Obama This Evening Why Administration Deported Frisco's Saad Nabeel

According to the INS website, you cannot apply for a green card until 1 year after your asylum request is granted. Also, if asylum is granted, a green card is not required, only recommended because if conditions change in the home country, one can lose their asylum status. Part of the failing here is it took 8 years to make a final ruling on the asylum request and another 8 years from the time the green card request was submitted until it was approved.

• We, as a society, routinely make exceptions to the law. If anything, the exceptions are more plentiful than the enforcement. And I'm not talking solely about immigration-related matters. Just watching the courts over the last ten years or so, we've seen huge exceptions made to established law, especially as it relates to the 4th Amendment made by all sorts of people along the decision-making chain. And many times, politicians (both Republican and Democrat) and others are celebrated for suggesting we make exceptions to the law.

• Is it possible to be sorry for the kid and still want the law enforced? At what point do you stop making exceptions and who gets to decide?

• Just because the law is the law doesn't mean it's a morally justifiable law. The poor kid was screwed over by his parents. WHat is the kid suppose to do? He certainly didn't apply for a visa as a 3 year old and came here on his own power. There are morally right laws, and there are immoral laws. Immigration system needs to be overhaul, and be overhaul the right way so that someone like Saad who has done nothing wrong be treated fairly. That kid must be going through some serious psychological problems or depression right now.

We are one of the most open forgiving societies in the world and are regularly taken advantage of because of it. Why do some immigrants flee lawless societies to only proceed to break the laws of the society they choose to join.

• Saad's parents stole residency. Saad stole a taxpayer funded education to which he was not entitled. This theft must stop. The American taxpayer cannot carry the world. If Saad's parents stole a car and gave it to Saad, should Saad be allowed to keep the car if he was not aware of the theft? Without that car, Saad might suffer a hardship, so should the theft be ignored? Or course not. Stop excusing crimes. One does have a right to keep stolen property. End of story.

• Those who are saying Saad should be deported, why? What has he done wrong? Be the child of someone who was here with a work visa and was vigorously trying to become a legal immigrant? I know Saad and he wasn't even aware of any of what was going on with his parents until he was in the process of being deported. Everything he remembers is in the United States, he's just as American as you or me, so why should he be deported?

• for everyone that is saying illegal is illegal idk if you can read he was trying to become legal.. he's a smart guy unlike some of the the ignorant ppl we have in the world day.. im honored to say i graduated with saad.. he's not like a mexican who isnt trying to become legal so maybe obama can actually become a good president and start caring for people who can make this coutry a better place..

• The family was ordered by a court to leave the country in 2002. The family ignored the order. At that point, the family becomes lawbreakers. It is a disgrace that ICE approved any status for that criminal family. Their gaming of the system for 16 years almost succeeded. That 10-year leave document is the only thing that allows for some semblence of the rule-of-law. There are many people all over the world waiting for legal entry into the USA. These people need to be processed before any consideration is given to these 'line cutters'.

Actually they did pursue legal citizenship and it was approved after the family was deported: "Upon reaching Bangladesh, Saad was informed that his family's I-130 (a document filed with the ICE to allow family members to immigrate into the country and eventually, obtain permanent resident status) had recently been approved and that, had he not been forced to sign the 10-Year Leave document, he and his family would be able to return to the United States as Permanent Legal Immigrants."

• "his parents were denied political asylum and refused to leave" Were the parents also deported? Is Ralph also asking that the parents be allowed to return/stay? Been here since age 3; so his parents had 16 to 17 years to pursue legal citizenship but did nothing.

• I swear we're the only country on the planet that will vigorously defend your right to be here illegally.

• Once again this is a prime example of NOT WHAT YOU KNOW, BUT WHO YOU KNOW. This kid may get help only because he has had people help make him a semi-celeberity. Ans as others pointed out, we saw how the Prez took care of his own as always. I still believe ILLEGAL IS ILLEGAL and if you arent here legally, then you need to be DEPORTED !!!! I also like Mexico's way. They deport you & confiscate all your worldly goods for the state as well.

• Well, the President had to make room for his auntie to stay after she ignored deportation orders. Maybe if Saad had a politician for a relative. Frankly, the politicians had screwed up the legal immigration system as to make it more of a hazing than a screen and they refuse to fix the illegal immigration mess they created. I would rather have 535 of the next batch of foreigners arriving in this country running the country than our Senators and Congresscritters.
