Speaking of the president's visit ...

One week ago today we mentioned that Former Dallas City Plan Commissioner-turned-immigration activist Ralph Isenberg has taken up the cause of Saad Nabeel, who came to the U.S. with his parents when he was 3, graduated from Frisco's Liberty High School, got a scholarship to the University of Texas at Arlington -- only to find himself deported by the U.S. government to Dhaka, Bangladesh, after his parents were denied political asylum and refused to leave. Isenberg, who's hoping to get the proposed DREAM Act rewritten to include cases like Nabeel's, done went and bought himself a ticket to the Russell Budd fund-raiser precisely so he can take Nabeel's case to President Obama:

"But the quickest solution by far would be to pass a DREAM Act that includes an amendment for young persons who have been recently deported. Other legal issues would require lengthy legal actions -- and the wait would do no good to Saad."
Timing's certainly good: There's a front-page story in The New York Times this morning about how the Obama Administration "is sparing one group of illegal immigrants from expulsion: students who came to the United States without papers when they were children." Um ...
