Nolan Ryan Hints at Some Changes Coming to Ballpark in Arlington Next Season

• I would gladly sit in the heat if they would build a stadium in Dallas. I only attend 1-2 games a year because of the drive. In Dallas? I'd do 5-10 games a year.

• When it comes to the tech of stadium redesign, it is possible to replicate a similar setup to what we see at Minute Maid Park in downtown Houston. What the Rangers should consider doing for now at least is enclosing the open entrances/airspace around the park similar to the juicebox, then have a design put into place for a retractable roof that fits the asthetic of the location. When it comes to food service, ive been saying for quite awhile that SportService hasnt really brought their "A" game for the common ballpark fan, man cannot live on dayglo yellow cheese nachos and Decker Brand Hog Anus meatsticks for a dollar on wednesdays alone. I for one would like to see local restaurants get a shot at running the parks, imagine having a Risckys BBQ sandwich, Fuzzys Tacos and a frozen custard for dessert. Heck, maybe even a place where I and others can get a quality Kosher-style hotdog(Hebrew National)with the fixings would be nice as well

• Now is as good a time as any to note that GW & spouse are sitting in an air-conditioned box at tonight's game. Hey Arlington, you've been had - again and again and again. Pay for your share of DART and some AC and we might show. As it is, at one of the most entertaining game of the year, the Rangers still have not announced they sold out. That's just sad.

• build some rail tracks so you can roll the ballpark into cowboys stadium. BTW thanks again for actual sports reporting

• @oughttobe mcdowell Sure, move the Rangers to downtown Dallas for all that great entertainment down there. Wait...where? Victory Park=failure. Deep Ellum=crime West End=Dead I guess people could visit the bus station, or go down to The Bridge. Arlington is where the Rangers need to be. Yes, the owners should have put a dome on the stadium when it was originally built. But moving it to downtown Dallas isn't a great idea either. You forget that the Dallas City Council can't do anything right.

• I miss the old crappy Arlington Stadium! Those $4 bleacher seats ruled. And the $2 draft beers suited my purpose. I have old-timer-syndrome at the age of 44.

• Augustus, You've put your finger on the biggest problems with any sun screens, they tend to screen out the wind too. I do landscaping, and I find many architects and lay people don't really understand this. I wish I had a dollar for every time I've had someone say they wanted to cover their patio. Really, and cut out all air circulation, all views of trees, and skies? What amazes me further is that few think to align the beams that make up a normal pergola so that it will block out afternoon sun and allow morning light. Anyway, the point is, screen the sun and you block the wind. If they simply added fans, I think fans would come, the screen doesn't make a lot of sense.

• Problem isn't just the heat, it's the lack of air circulation in places. Nothing moves in the club terrace seats under the overhang, and you feel like you're suffocating out there. Tried those battery-powered misting fans, but they don't help much.

• @ Scruffy and c'mon, good points. It's really a pipe dream like you say regarding the highly unlikelihood of a roof being put in place. And I guess the solution is what c'mon says. Stay at home. Its cheaper and much more comfortable. Sorry Nolan, Chuck. But you leave us fans no choice. And I know people are going to come in here and say we are wimpy and need to man up, etc. Bullcrap. It's not that. We can take the heat. But what we refuse to do is pay for regular, somewhat overpriced tickets and NOT get to really enjoy it to the fullest and get out true money's worth.

• I'm sorry but from late June til late September the Rangers are best enjoyed on TV. Why was the ballpark built without a roof anyways?

• You young fellers need to bring back some good old fighting to the game. Why they had that Reds/Cardinals action playing on the UHF channels all morning today before Skip Bayless came on and I had to turn the damn thing off.

• Retrofitting a roof or any sort of shading/covering device onto that stadium is not going to happen. Look at the place--you really see an easy way to tack that on without it looking like a South Dallas poker house afterwards? Or having ticket prices go through the new roof? Just do dollar soft drink days and put a nice, impossible-to-miss field temperature display that is constantly in view for visiting teams and play mind-games with them. But unless the Vs show up and park a ship right over the temple, there isn't going to be any shade from above until that nice, new downtown ballpark we all want comes along around 2025.

• i'm a texas native and a ranger's lifer, but hell yes!!! primanti brothers sandwiches??? and how about yeungling beer? while we're at it, throw in game day foot traffic on the roberto clemente bridge (6th street), the entire PNC ballpark and the adjacent the warhol museum...

• Gotta do something about that heat. Forget everything else (scoreboard, changing nachos) and cool that place down. That is priority #1. Economically not feasible? Maybe not now but think how many more people will buy tickets if and when a roof is placed on.

• i'm a huge rangers fan and a baseball fan. as well as a food and kitschy ballpark food, entertainment, give-aways, etc. the rangers need serious help in all departments: 1. YES! - bring back manual scoreboard. that video board is lousy. 2. a couple nicer screens would be great 3. how about a retractable screen shade (mesh?) that goes over the entire stadium? sounds crazy, but it would be cheap and you could still have an open air stadium. 4. better concessions- Primanti Bros., whatever, maybe Angelos BBBQ from Ft Worth and enough w/ the Sherriff Blaylocks, that cheesy corporate "brand" is appaling. more and better beer selections (the one stand is ok). 5. Promotions! - make it fun and worthwhile for a regular person to trek all the way to Arlington for a Sun-Thurs game. think Minor League promotions. 6. physically move the Ballpark to downtown dallas. there's nothing in Arlington to do post-game.
