A Week Before Mary Suhm Debuts Budget, an Announcement to "Save Our Dallas Libraries"

ilovmylibrary.jpg
In recent weeks we've taken sneak peeks at how pending budget cuts will more than likely gut the library system. But till Monday rolls 'round and Dallas City Manager Mary Suhm debuts her proposed FY2010-11 budget, we won't know for sure how deep those wounds will run. Nevertheless, Friends of the Dallas Public Library this morning announces the kick-off event of its efforts to Save Our Dallas Libraries, with a wine-and-cheese wingding on August 12 at the J. Erik Jonsson Central Library. Scheduled to speak is Thomas Alexander, author of the book Stanley Marcus: The Relentless Reign of a Merchant Prince -- so chosen, no doubt, because Marcus was among those who co-founded Friends of the Dallas Public Library in 1950.

And I see at the bottom of the page the Friends have quite a few friends -- among them Borders Books, Arcodoro and Pomodoro, all of whom will be collecting dough for the libraries in coming weeks. And, there's a Donor Bridge pledge drive on September 8.
