Scofflaws, Beware: It's Time For Yet Another of the City's Semi-Annual Warrant Roundups!

Back in March there was one of the city's semi-annual warrant roundups -- otherwise known as pay-up-or-get-locked-up weekend -- during which we peeked at the city's lengthy list of scofflaws only to find, way down toward zee end, a woman named Sherriee (or Sherice or Sherie or ...) Zeek with several dozen warrants with fines totaling well into the five figures. And, of course, months later she's still there, still owing enough to pay one City Hall's employee salary for a year.

One Friend of Unfair Park did offer a why-come back in the spring (that one person is actually "a fake ID used by multiple immigrants"). But I've left messages with Chief Deputy Marshal Paul Hansen and Mary Lynn Morris, assistant director at the Dallas City Marshal's Office, to find out how effective these roundups really are. As in: How many folks get popped each time, and how much does the city actually pocket during these roundups? I've asked city spokesman Frank Librio the same thing. I will update when they respond.

Anyway. There's another one a-comin'. Starts bright and early Sunday morning -- 6 a.m., so you'd best sleep in your footie pajama Saturday night. The release follows. Don't say you weren't warned.
Summer warrant roundup and Scofflaw enforcement begins this Sunday

What: The Dallas City Marshal's Office will conduct a warrant round-up of individuals with outstanding arrest warrants for unpaid traffic and non-traffic citations. Offenders who are delinquent in satisfying their City of Dallas warrants are subject to a hold being placed on the renewal of their Vehicle Registration with the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (Scofflaw Program) or being arrested and jailed.

Persons with outstanding City citations may avoid Vehicle Registration holds or arrests by paying citations in person at the Lew Sterrett Justice Center Lobby, 111 W. Commerce, from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week or by visiting 106 S. Harwood between 7:30 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, (wheelchair access is at 2014 Main Street) and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon.

Citations may also be paid online.
