When I was on the phone with city archivist John Slate yesterday, talking about his Historic Dallas Parks book, I asked him about something else he'd mentioned in May -- the city's recent acquisition of "several hundred vintage images of the Dallas Farmers Market -- really, really cool ones that show what an active place it was." They're presently being digitized for display on University of North Texas Libraries' Portal to Texas History Web site, and Slate says the full collection should be available by, oh, let's say fall.

But he was kind enough to send me one previously unpublished photo. And I never refuse such gifts.
