Dude, Sweet Bike Rack! Or: Making Something Brand-New Out of Century-Old Rail Line.

What you see above is the new bike rack in front of Dude, Sweet Chocolate in the Bishop Arts District -- which I mention because, as Bike Friendly Oak Cliff points out this morning, it's made from 107-year-old streetcar rail. So it's, ya know, art. Writes Jason Roberts in the blurb accompanying wife Andrea's photos, David Spence, the attorney turned developer, "used part of the original streetcar rail laid in Oak Cliff in 1903 that he had acquired after the city had done road repairs on Bishop Boulevard." Roberts says it's the first of many bike rack-slash-art installations due to pop up 'round North Oak Cliff in coming months.
