George Grosz's A Dallas Night, 1952
While I wait for folks to return calls, I wanted to share with the Friends of Unfair Park one of two items I picked up at Half Price Books over the weekend: a 1952 black-and-white pamphlet from the Dallas Museum of Fine Arts showcasing Impressions of Dallas, consisting entirely of the colorful work of the late German artist George Grosz. And, quelle coincidence: Soon as I started to look further into his watercolors, oil paintings and sketches depicting Dallas, done at the behest of the late department store magnate Leon Harris, I discovered that they'll return to the Dallas Museum of Art on June 1, 2011, in an exhibit titled Flower of the Prairie: George Grosz in Dallas, 1952.

The summer 2011 exhibit will mark the first time since '52 the works have been shown together. So, then, consider the pamphlet found on the other side less a history lesson than a very sneak peek at next summer's showcase.

Here, incidentally, you'll find a color reproduction of Dallas Skyline available for purchase in various sizes.

I also found stashed away amongst the Dallas effluvia one of the 300 copies of Sketches of Dallas that Guy Cahoon made for First Republic Bank. I will share that with the Friends later this week -- it'll take a while to scan, but it's well worth it. Impressions of Dallas
