Calculating Deck Park's Return on Investment (And, Bonus, a Road Trip Through Texas)

• @Roadside If you look at a map, you'll see that walking from the Ritz to the AAC does not involve the deck park at all. That quote from Patrick was in regards to a wider problem of walkability in Dallas - that (as you said) despite the distance being only .5 miles, almost no one would walk it.

• Gonna tag that park with a bowel movement for the ages. Can't wait, can't wait.

• "Think about this: how do you walk from the Ritz to the American Airlines Center?" Ah...rich people dont walk. They could take a cab/limo or just valet their Bentleys. In the remote case they would venture into such a trip...they could take Pearl. They dont need to walk all the way down to Woodall Rogers. No, I am not a Park hater. I think its a good idea. I dont think it will be the panacea of all of downtown's problems nor do I think this will be like Ocean Front property. (Take this from a guy from the Caribbean. A Park an Ocean makes not). But its a good step in the right direction.

• If I ever lose my house, I'm moving to Main Street Gardens.

• Homeless people only take dumps on places where most Americans won't deign to doo-doo because they feel it's "beneath" them.

• Wow, I'm feeling a little more "grump" in the air today than usual. In addition, being a Main Street resident, I'm still waiting on this rush of bums that everyone here predicted would take over the Main Street Garden. I mean from all the comments, I was expecting some sort of homeless version of woodstock to set up camp next door, but all I've seen thus far are the usual Dallas stereotypes walking their tiny dogs (remarkably similar to the image above). BUT, I'm sure you all know best....I'm sure the moment this park opens every homeless person in the county will rush over to take a dump on the lawn. sheesh!

• Don't you just love love the propaganda prints? Even the homeless are not going to want to fertilize and water the flora with all of the dogs competing against them.

• "Think about this: how do you walk from the Ritz to the American Airlines Center?" I don't and neither do 99.9999% of the folks footing the bill for such infrastructure. And I bet it would be done a lot cheaper than spending 80 million dollars per 1600ft. Dallas needs the 80 million to pay off the convention center bonds that will fail.

• Who's gonna pay for that pretty fountain, since Dallas doesn't have the money to run the fountain at it's newest park? Dallas can't/isn't/won't maintain its current parks now. I wonder where the magically money will come for this? Within three years it will be empty, the fountain shut down, and have third rate landscaping.

• beautiful weather and the 281 mention got me thinking road trip.

• Dallasites never cease to amaze me. I'm a native Texan, old enough to be a member of AARP, live in the hood, and walk everywhere I need to go that is less than a mile away. And that includes during the dregs of the summer months. But again, maybe that's why I'm not fat, have perfect blood pressure, and don't look my age. I can't wait for the deck park to be completed.

• @Lolotehe- Your misconception about Dallas in August is typically the excuse offered when someone is arguing against walkable infrastructure. But have you seen McKinney Ave in August? Large numbers of people walk from one place to another. The same can be said of Austin in August (actually, there are even more people out there), where temperatures exceed those of Dallas.

• Oh, but in the depth of August, a quarter-mile might as well be the other side of the city.

• My wife's from S.A. and we decided to take the 281 route a few years ago on a whim. Unless we're in a hurry to get to S.A. (and who would actually be in a hurry to get there), we always take 281. I-35, suck it.

• Is that picture of the Woodall Rodgers Dog Park? Eww. Nevermind the homeless pooping there.
