News & Notes: Kunkle Gets New Gig, Cortes Loses His & Irving Needs People

• Yeah, nobody takes ten years to develop anything here in Dallas proper, that's for sure. Right, Trinity River Project? Speaking of long-term development, over in Garland, there was a sign put up around about 1997 announcing a new AMC theater coming soon. I had long given up on there ever being an AMC theater on that corner, but lo and behold, one finally opened a couple of years ago.

• The conceptual renderings are nice but how could they forget the cheerleader holding a map of Texas over her head? All improbable conceptual renderings should include her.

• 10 years before Irving can develop the old stadium site? Wow. Just make sure whatever development gets built there has parking spaces for flying cars because I'm sure those will have been invented by the time anything resembling those conceptual renderings get built. Or if all goes well they can try to extract revenge on Arlington by building a new stadium for the Rangers. They'll be ready for one in a decade. "This is a team Tom Vandergriff stole from Washington D.C. We're stealing it back."

• Actually Irving can remove TXDOT off the land at any point, it is a year by year renewable contract. TXDOT land rental is actually is bringing in more revenue than the Cowboys did directly to Irving! But TXDOT can be removed from the land at any point Irving is ready to redevelop. Just thought I would be set that straight for you.

• Doug, the shoulder rope is called an Aiguillette. (google it) They have different meanings in different countries. On a constable, it's probably an affectation, in other words "a fancy do-dad worn to look impressive."

• It suddenly hit me why I've always found that picture of Cortes so ridiculous (even before reading about him). What the H does the white shoulder cord represent? Do all County Constables wear that? Is that really an official part of the uniform? Do deputies wear one of a different color? It's one thing for a member of the military to wear one...in my past experience they designate membership in a particular (usually somewhat elite) group. But on a freakin' county constable's uniform? Please tell me it isn't just a fancy doo-dad he wears to look impressive!!

• The Fast Company article is really good, till you get to the part where the 'The glittering towers featured in the opening credits of Dallas -- one pair seemingly clad in gold leaf, another as black and viscous as an oil slick -- lie not in Dallas proper, but in the remnants of El Ranchito de las Colinas, the 12,000-acre �Little Ranch of the Hills.� Hello??? Campbell Centre I & II, NOT in Las Colinas. Apparently no one has a mapsco when they write about stuff in Dallas. (like preston hollow's view of the mountians and lakes)
