Some news and notes on this light-commenting Thursday:

Domingo Garcia's got himself a whole new immigration-reform MegaMarch to promote -- this one, a May 1 parade that'll start at the Santuario de Guadalupe on Ross Ave. and end at Dallas City Hall. Says Garcia on the Web site, "Our immigrant community is in dire need of immigration reform. We need to enable them to be full contributors to our economy. America must live up to its religious and moral values." Here's the part of this item I like best: Marijuana's bestest buds, DFW NORML, has scheduled a pro-pot march at Dallas City Hall on May 1. Hit it, Wooderson. ...

Speaking of City Hall, Frank Librio sent us an invite to the Flag Room tomorrow at noon, where Mayor Tom Leppert and council members Dwaine Caraway, Steve Salazar, Carolyn Davis and Delia Jasso and assorted "community leaders" will debut the first César Chávez street sign. At last! Sunday, incidentally, is when the name change for S. Central Expressway downtown takes effect. ...

And whilst on the subject of controversies, our own Elaine Liner and the Theater Jones send word that Fort Worth's Rose Marine Theater -- which, maybe you heard, had offered to stage John Jordan Otte's production of the Terrence McNally play Corpus Christi -- just backed out, so sorry. Too many calls about Gay Jesus. Elaine is not amused. ...

And brother Bill Holston sends word that all those interested in the fate of Garland Road might wanna get thee to the Arboretum by 6:30 tonight for the second and final public meeting to discuss the in-the-works-since-'06 Garland Road Vision. This'll be your last chance to rate and debate the plan, which is intended to transform the stretch of Garland from 'round about LBJ Freeway to Gaston Road into something more, ya know, hospitable.
