News & Notes: Don't Waste Water, But Do Build a Better Block. And, More Than You Needed 2 Know 'Bout Palin4Life.

A few odds and sods on this Census Day:

The fine folks at Bike Friendly Oak Cliff have posted a video follow-up to our post about plans to build The Better Block at the intersection of N. Tyler and W. 7th Streets on April 10 and 11. That's it up top, and it's rather self-explanatory ...

So too is the press release we got from City Hall this afternoon: "Dallas time-of-day watering restrictions resume today." And need we get much past the opening paragraph? Says the release, "City of Dallas Water Utilities (DWU) is reminding customers that time-of-day watering restrictions resume April 1. Following the conservation ordinance guidelines will avoid possible fines of $250 to $2,000 per incident. These mandatory time-of-day restrictions prohibit watering landscaping between the hours of 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. from April 1 through October 31 every year." That means you, Tom Hicks! I kid, I kid ...

But speaking of Mr. Hicks, this just in from Forbes: "Dallas Stars Will Be Lucky To Fetch $250 Million." I don't know where national editor Michael Ozanian gets his info. I do know I'll hate to see Mike Modano go ...

One more related thing: You remember that picture of Tom Hicks with Sarah Palin? Right, this one. Anyway, we had that item yesterday about Palin coming to town to raise money for an Uptown offshoot of the Downtown Pregnancy Center. Which is nothing compared to what you'll find about the event -- and, apparently, the people behind it -- on a Web site called palingates. But at least we know which property they're eying: the so-called White House on Turtle Creek on Fairmount Street. According to Preservation Dallas exec director Katherine Seale, "It is commonly said that the house dates to the turn-of-the-century period in Abilene and moved to its current location in the 1930s."
