• Gary, I believe you are correct -- it was called Cardi's at that point and was very seedy. Just after that, it was the site of the very first Blockbuster -- was it the same building? I don't know.

• Other January Sound shows from that era: Procol Harum Freddie King Peter Frampton The Frampton 'Do You Feel Like We Do' from that JS session (before the Frampton Live version came out) was the number one requested song on The Zoo for the following year.

• Re: Agora - wasn't it also The Wintergarden some time in there? I believe it was a converted dinner theater. Windmill, maybe? I saw Bob Crane there in '78 doing "Beginner's Luck", just a few weeks before he got the tripod treatment.

• hold on. it was the Palladium in the late 70's before it was renamed Agora Ballroom.

• if we're telling Agora stories...saw SRV, Eric Johnson and Charlie Sexton...who I think was billed as "little charlie sexton", if my feeble memory isn't failing me, at the Agora in the early 80's.

• In '77, Foghat played San Antonio. My roommate and I slid down I-35 from San Marcos and loved it. After the show on the way to the car, a guy walks up to us and asks if we had any chemicals. I thought immediately that he had to be a fool for the city and told him that the photo processing place was around the corner.

• Saw them open for J. Giles in 1975 and they smoked. They had the full-metal Slow Ride happening at that point. At Memorial Auditorium no less (sigh!), Them was the days.

• Saw Foghat in Dallas at a "invite only" show on the day before the Texas Jam in 1979 at a place that is long gone on NW highway just east of Skillman. I can't remember the name of the venue - but I remember it held about 1500. My friend worked at a printing place, and stole the invites they were printing. Pretty kick ass show, but looking back there was massive Spinal Tap-ish stuff during the show I'm a fool for the city,baby!
