You're Free to Roam the Grass at Main Street Garden. But About That Fountain ...

• At least the boys aren't stepping on the off-limits anymore and back to the street. Well, lot of maintenance to do to street fountain nowadays. It has to be clean and green all the time. Everyone should participate to be fair enough for everyone also.

• @chris - Even if there were a sponsor, I'm certain that the sponsor would be picketed at the fountain for being too white, too Christian, too black, too not black, too environmentally unconscious, or worst of all not enough Cesar Chavezy, etc.

• seems to me if you only have money to run the fountain 14 hours total a week then I would focus the time it is running toward the weekend. so 11am to 6pm Saturday and Sunday -- when most people are not working and could enjoy the fountain. More over perhaps it would make sense to put a temp sensor on the fountain so it will only turn on for days above 90 degrees. I wonder how much it cost to run a fountain like this?

• Ah, now I understand the city's plan for fixing the levees. They will only allow the Trinity to run 2 hours a day...

• Chris, You bring up a great point, but remember that when most of these projects were on the drawing boards and under construction, the economy was going gangbusters and no one thought that there would be either limited or no money for upkeep and maintenance of these parks, fountains, etc. I can only assume that once the economy gets better that park upkeep, fountain maintenance will be where it should be. We can only hope.

• Branden you do realize people from your building do the same thing right? But really everyone, they should write tickets whether people clean up or not. For gosh sakes there's a dog park right there where they can crap to their hearts content.

• Whats the deal with this damned city, they build nice fountains or refurb them in the case of fair park, then put stipulations on how or when to run the water. Jesus H, Whats the point of having a fountain/water feature then? Another fine example of Dallas earning its rep as a half-assed city without any common sense or forethought at city hall, both in good and bad economic times. My question is why hasnt big business/foundations stepped up to help "co-sponsor" the running of these fountains. Better yet, maybe its time the Dallas Parks Department is taken out of city hands and neighborhood-minded volunteers can take over the upkeep of park property, similar to lee park, as the city surely doesnt have any common sense how to run their affairs.

• It is not clear to me why people don't understand that picking up poop after their pup is the sanitary and polite thing to do.

• ""Right now, it's funded by the city to run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. every day" World Class International City! Dallas, always building stuff that it runs in a half ass-fashion that it won't can't maintain. The nicest park in the City is Lee and it run by a private volunteer group, but it's still a dog toilet too.

• The parks in the <b>Park Cities</b> are really pretty nice, if you don't mind parking between the yard crew trailers along Turtle Creek. I recommend that everyone go there and invite everyone else.

• Will the Merc residents be required to pick up after their dogs? Until then, I wouldn't want to run amok for fear of shoe smears.

• My wish is that Mayor Leppert stop sucking millions of dollars out of an already broken city budget to fund his "Toll Road of Dreams" and the Convention Center Hotel.
