Henry Moss Park, where the power's always out

Unfair Park may be a bit delayed this morning. Blame it on Oncor, which spent an hour last night trying to restore power at our NW Dallas outpost before, apparently, giving up. We've had juice maybe six hours on and off out of the last 24 and none at all since 10:12 p.m. -- one out of some lucky 200,000-plus area households darkened by the epic, record-breaking, tree-limb-shattering, middle-finger-waving snowtacular. It was beautiful 24 hours ago; much less so since.

Till we find warmer climes and a working electrical outlet, how'd you survive Snow Justice Snow Peace 2010? And: Would you like some slightly defrosted chicken?

Update: In the light of day, my neighborhood (and backyard) is a disaster area -- tree limbs that didn't find a soft landing spot have taken out rooftops. No doubt you've found, or are enduring, the same thing.

Update to the update: The kid's with me in the office, while the missus waits for the tree man -- because we appear mere minutes away from losing the boy's room. And the garage. Wife says I'm being melodramatic. Me? Never.

ACS lost a data center (power) on Haskell Ave for a couple of hours, and it took most of the day to get clients back up and functioning...
My power is still out in Lakewood. The only days I want to survive in Chicago is Pitchfork. Man, Oncor can suck it. Yesterday morning their trucks sat at IHOP for 3 hours.
All you whiners go spend a winter in Chicago. Probably wouldn't last a month. This is a typical day in March up there. Of course, I moved back here to avoid this mess. Oh well.
Trees--all they're good for is maple syrup and printer paper. All you older yuppies wanted them as decor for your lawns on your burby properties and now look at your headache for the price of it. If Dallas were actually a city, instead of a string of burbs and a downtown, and people lived more in the city, probably wouldn't be such a widespread issue. Alas.
Where do you think the beer went -- back porch. Where it was promptly smashed to bits by what used to be a tree in the backyard.
An old Okie tip: put your fridge food on the porch - even better, on the old couch on your porch.

Here in Lakewood, we only lost power for a few hours which I happily spent at The Goat with candles, beer & a few other die-hards :)
This snow storm reminds me of when I was free-lancing as a sexual single. What appeared beautiful the night before became sinister and scary the morning after. Bottom line, the people hav ing the best time this a.m. are renters or those without property or at least property w/trees. My large wooded lot of amazing trees, many over 100 years old, all well maintained, pruned, cared for...shattered. It's a debris field. The saving grace is that last summer I got a standing seam metal roof and that is a) ballistic b) required I cut tree limbs away from the house to install it. I will survive. But the absolute specimen of a youpon holly at my front door is being brutalized and it's touch and go as the limbs just can't hang on another hour. But thank God, the power held although I am shocked since many of the power lines cut through the Trinity Forest and the periphery...that would be my neighborhood at the northeast courner where there are more trees around here per capita than any place this side of Yosemite.
Now I'm all terrified as to what I'll come home to. Home in uptown, but spent last night with the Future-Ex-Wife in Plano.. no power problems there... I wonder if my pork chops are thawed out by now?
No prob with lectricity in Richardson (a burb, btw). Confirmed when I left for work this morning as I watched my electric garage door close.

Fine, fine haters (which is why your joke didn't work, tyvm). Just got home from the power-full North to find no power, which means no entry when you have to "fob in", for the 1st time in 2 yrs. Still hold true to my comment. But now, since no power (which blows), going cross-country skiing. Finally, TX gets worthy weather. About fucking time.

Clearly, there is one solution: ditch the burbs and all those house issues for an Uptown or Downtown rental that others are liable to fix, rather than going all Tim Taylor on some oldish ass house that loses power and is starting to be more Money Pit than This Old House. I'll take your chicken for the main staple in my fridge: white wine. But when the power comes on, can ya cook my bird? I don't, and my little golden retriever is hungry.
