Taking One More Step Down Katy Trail

• I like how the sidewalk around glenco park in the aerial photo is outlined in what appears to be a sharpie.  Seriously though, it's a pretty nice little neighborhood park. 

• You have to love the irony: using money from a "Congestion Mitigation Air Quality Program" to fund something that increases congestion. Based just on the parking lot at Knox Street, the Katy Trail probably generates a couple hundred car trips per day. Before someone gets their panties in a wad, I'm not against the trail. I use it frequently. But the suggestion that it decreases congestion is laughable. Heck, I personally make 4-6 extra one-way car trips per week to get to the trail, instead of running in my own neighborhood.

• Dallasm, the October briefing I linked to above, as Phase VI: The Undiscovered Country, provides the latest info concerning guesstimated project time lines. And, Confused, they had to take Phase VI out of the rest of the projects because of the mammoth amount of construction and money needed. And, right now, they're trying to find the money. Last I heard.

• Does anyone know where I could find a project time line?

• How does the project connect if they are starting phase 3 (III) in March and phase 6 (VI) in December. Dont phases 4 and 5 have to connect 3 and 6?

• I'm glad that they are expanding the Katy Trail again, but it looks like parts of it is running right along the access roads of 75. While the exhaust from cars will make running on that stretch pretty miserable during the summer, I hope the trail planners have effective barriers and other protections for the people using the trail. As I recall, the right lane turns to a "turn only" lane at McCommas. I have seen several dumbasses in the right lane either purposefully or ignorantly get in that lane and then try and race the left lane so they can cross over and stay on the access road. On one occasion, I saw an SUV try and out race the left lane and ended up driving on the sidewalk before he/she could get back on the street. We definitely need more pedestrian trails and sidewalks in Dallas, but the city of Dallas must address safety issues. Dallas drivers are notorious for ignoring cyclists and pedestrians, so we need as much protection as we can get.

• Speaking of aliens, 2 of those LCD screens were installed downtown over the weekend. They look like giant smartphones ready to take over our planet.
