Free Fair Park!

• I also went on a yearly field trip to Fair Park grades 1-5 back in the mid-70's. They weren't exactly the glory days, I assure you. We had to bring a sack lunch to eat in The Magnolia Lounge, which then smelled of rotting trash and urine as I recall. But like you Robert, we didn't know any better, and seeing that big sawfish in the aquarium was always the highlight.

• Daggummit Robert. Shhh. Oh well. One of the gates is almost always open. I used to sneak there all the time. Used to go there allot after the Bar O Dope closed for the night, You almost hear the starplex concerts from the top rows, spent the night once, OK I passed out, had several dates , er, picnics, on the 50 yard line, peed off the top. This was oft followed by a dip in the fountains. Now ya gotta go an give up the ghost. Uh wait a minute... that stuff never happened.

• It's a lovely place, open to its neighbors every single day. But, if you're trying to develop it as an event venue, FP is a loss. Parking rates, in competitive events, is causing a loss to every one-off event that attempts it. Without these 'mom 'n pop' events, FP will have to depend upon blockbuster events --which folks can't afford these days-- even as the museums and Dallas Summer Musicals depart for downtown and the Cotton Bowl is left empty. FP management cannot create a financially-attractive incentive to hold events there; we're moving our monthly events to Market Hall (new management, lower costs, newer building) and when our dollars leave, there will be none to spend on the glamorous fountains, minimal parking security or even lighting. We are at the brink of either restoring FP or losing it completely. Tom Perkins, frankly, gets to use it for free; the rest of us do not.

• @no concerts in fair park pls don't come back to Fair Park.

• That room in the Discovery Gardens used to be so much better before they decided to remodel. Had those lovely curved walkways down to the main floor and the lovely 2 story door. Room now feels like it has a broken leg. Also the wonderful old tiled bathroom got booted in the name of progress.

• Fair park is a JOKE!! If you try to do a show or a concert there, you wind up spending WAAAY to much money on things that FAIR PARK FORCES YOU TO HAVE. SUch as their security (useless as tits on a boar), their cleanup crews and maintenance people who clean or restock the restrooms when they want to) , additional building space that's not needed or used, they take 20% of your concessions (that's CRAP!), force you to hire off duty DPD officers at THEIR (FAIR PARK's) RATE (The DPD officers get the lowest rate for the gig, and you really dont get the best that DPD has to offer. Fair park takes the rest), and finally they take all of the parking dollars. I see why no promoter wants to do business with them, IT'S A BIG RIPOFF!!!!!
