Didn't work for the Times with their columnists and it isn't going to work for the News. Real good move to make your paper totally irrelevant.

In a few years we will be talking about the Dallas Morning News in the past tense permanently. Some folks will have collections of old papers and Cue Cats as oddities. But for the most part only bird owners will miss the DMN due to a lack of cage bottom wrappers.

In no way will I ever pay for content from a belo website. I hate their format as it is. You have to log in to see content and then do stupid captcha to post on their blogs, its TERRIBLE. Plus everytime you finally figure out where everything is on their website, they do a format change. As for content, since they are sharing with Star-Telegram are we going to have to pay to see what belo employees reported on, on the ST website?

The race is on to see how much people will pay to be told what to think.

DMN not only lays claim to the worst newspaper website it's also THE worst major metropolitan daily in the U.S of A.

I would pay for the Observer and I already pay for the NY Times.

I know these are very tough times for the newspaper industry. The Observer is the best example of a premium weekly in the U.S. and yet I'm betting it's still a real struggle to stay afloat. There is so much competition for your "eyes" already on the web (check out the horrible, IMO, new CNN interface) that web sites will probably act as loss leaders for the printed page until something like the Kindle becomes near universal.

Everyone already said what I was thinking.

The Dallas Morning News needs Robert Wilonsky and many more like him: someone who grew up in Dallas, knows the territory and is actually interested in covering all the angles.

This is doomed to fail. If one newspaper breaks ranks and goes back to google they will reap all the traffic and money when people flock to the free content.

All the others still charging for content will be left out in the cold unless they come back to google also.

All the content providers have to be in perfect sync to monopolize the content and put it behind a paywall but all it takes is one to break ranks and kill them all.

Did somebody actually say The Observer is "the best example of a premium weekly in the U.S."? As much as enjoy reading the Observer's ever-shrinking content, anybody that's ever read the weekly in Seattle, The Stranger, knows what an awesome weekly looks like.

The DMN editorial staff makes it the worst.

I plum forgot about The Stranger...and the now defunct (soon to be resurrected?) OTHER Washington's The Blade that covers Gay and Lesbian issues so well...

Guess I'll be reading more of the Star-Telegram...I wonder if they will be blocking Channel 8's news also?

I haven't missed the WSJ one iota since Murdoch decided he wanted us to pay for it. I avoided the NYT when they wanted to charge for their columnists. This is all grandstanding. They can opt out of Google right now and won't do it. It won't bother me one bit if the DMN goes into the same nethersphere of the WSJ.

The DMN, as a dead tree edition and online product, are about the same, which is pretty worthless. Too bad I cant use the online version as birdcage/catpan liners, as its about the only damn thing its worth using as. Hell, The Metro(adult weekly newspaper) has more credibility than the DMN accordingly..and more absorbent ;)

Also Jack, Alan Peppard is the society "grand dame" your referring to, he's about three steps shy of working for Wick at D, seeing how the DMN keeps cutting staff and he's more suited for the "cocktail scene" that Wick and his gang run out of the office...

they wont put names of suspects in the story and lie no less on why they wont saying "its a vague id" etc
we all know about spj.org "rules" that aim to end having minorities feel as if they are suspects

HOW ABOUT MINORITIES CAN HANDLE IT
