As a 20 year user of the Dallas Bike Plan route system, both for recreation riding and commuting, may I state, "It Works". You can get pretty close to most places in Dallas from one of the marked routes. Is it perfect, NO. It has not been properly maintained, and has not had updates because there has been no money allocated. There are route improvements that can be easily made, but the old map book can't even be reprinted due to cost. I have provided input to the City for many years, and it has been welcomed, and agreed with much of the time, but it always ends with "No Money".

A good Bicycle Transportation System has to have many elements chosen from on street shared lanes, off street trails and paths, and bike lanes where they can be fit onto existing roads effectively and safely. The on street component does have to be there, however. You can't build enough trails ($$$) or find places to accommodate safe bike lanes to get people to all parts of the city. Most all trips will end sharing a street with cars.

Whatever consultants are chosen, regardless of where they are from, need to build on what we already have, and make it better.

This idea of creating one of them big city plans is poppycock, i tell ya! People don't want to walk on the streets, dagnabbit, they want to drive their jalopies. They want to sit in their La-Z-Boy chairs and drink their 7-11 Big Gulps in the privacy of their own tract homes, miles away from those grimy cities, with their poor people, and their high crime rates, and their hip hopper music. Don't you know we already have a bunch of parks, with their drug needles, and their unmowed lawns. You listen here, Dallas, you need to just focus on your potholes, and forget about the world around you. Those crazy tattoo kids, with their uncombed hair, and their skinny jeans, are a bunch of derelicts, and their making us look like bafoons with their high-falootin' otter-cad drawings and their fancy water fountains in the middle of the central expressway. we need someone who has been here for 30 years to make a new plan. Their the only one's who understand what one of them cities is supposed to look like, cuz we all know that 1979 was a stellar year for city planning in Amerika.

You mean Mayor Miller didn't fix all the potholes in your neighborhood
