"What is 'Shack'?" Or: To Whom, Exactly, is RadioShack Marketing Their Bright Idea?

As we told you Monday, today's the big day that RadioShack rebrands itself as "The Shack." And the Fort Worth-based electronics company opted to launch the re-launch with a Web site featuring some dude in San Francisco yukking it via a video feed with some other dude in New York. And they're both accosting passers-by (and, maybe, plants?) who, no doubt, are on their way to a Best Buy whilst wondering what in the what is going on. A catastrophuck from which you won't be able to avert your eyes and ears -- your poor, poor ears. This will not end well.

Maybe they can sign Shaq to promote The Shack. Oh I just love word play.

religion of bacon says:

FFS, is that "coast-to-coast linkup" crap using special compression and distortion technology to make it maximally annoying? I've never set the volume slider for my audio that low and still had it sound so totally obnoxious. It's like the old SNL skit about the announcements in NYC subways.

Seriously, what in the wide world of sports is going on right now? A dance routine? A game of "Simon Says"? The precursor to a cult mass suicide? I am riveted. RIVETED!

Re-branding by frou frou ad agency = $1,000,000
10,000,000,000,000 mentions of Radio Shack and 'The Shack" on the intraweb and in old media = priceless

John on a Carphone says:

The Big Guy is right, it *is* about the only thing thing the media has reported about Radio Shack in forever.

Hey wait a minute ... Robert, didn't you guys report a few years ago that Radio Shack was giving away those Cue Cats for free?

So The Hut sells food and The Shack sells electronics?????

And their live video thing is a Yoga class right now.... Still not as much of a train wreck as StarburyTV.

It's like looking at a 1995 web site--just because you CAN make scrolling, blinking, twirling text doesn't mean you SHOULD. The marketing folks should be shot.
