GOP County Chair Jonathan Neerman Considers Challenging Rep. Allen Vaught

Neerman admits he's looking in the mirror while trying to find the best candidate to run against Allen Vaught in 2010.

Dallas County Republican Party chair Jonathan Neerman, whose Q&A with the editorial board at The News can be read in yesterday's Points section, confirmed rumors that he's considering a run against Democrat Allen Vaught for Texas House District 107.

"I've heard the same rumors," he tells Unfair Park. "I'm looking at it, but I'm also trying to find the best candidate."

As Neerman told us in December, he planned on battling Vaught in 2008 until he found out that his friend Bill Keffer, who in 2006 lost his seat to Vaught by 1,109 votes, wanted to give it another try. In another close race, Keffer lost in '08 by 1,758 votes.

Not the year to run on the republican ticket. Neerman is better off holding on to his County Chair seat. He could have a long, successful political career ahead of him.....better to not lose early.
Dark side? You mean those who dare to hold Vaught accountable? If so, count me in. I'm as "dark" as it gets. Go Neerman.
I don't get the candidate of the dark side comment either. Allen Vaught ran on a platform with education his number one priority. To date he has introduced no innovative bills to help our neighborhood schools. His support of the bill to allow public school employees to keep their criminal histories private is a slap in the face to parents in his district with children in public schools. His support of a failed system is a blatant disregard of his responsibility to the parents and children of his district. Our kids are not staying the same age. They are growing up in a system that consistently fails to prepare them to become outstanding citizens who can contribute to their community. At some point we as voters have to recognize that the person we voted for is there for us. Vaught not, he is there for himself. As an elected official he should be shouting from rooftops that his neighborhood schools are failed. He should be introducing innovative legislation that brings sound methods to improving our schools. He should be reading about other states that have made a difference in inner-city schools and gathering information and bringing it to the district. Instead he introduces a bill that says everyone should wear seatbelts. WOW! that is an innovative solution to our crappy schools. The only thing that Allen Vaught is consistent in, is his love of the system and his own paycheck which I am paying for. I don't need an employee who sits on his lily-white and shops at nordstroms online. We in district 107 do not need another do-nothing representative. While we are out advocating for our children and picking up the trash along the sidewalks of our schools, Vaught is click clicking through Neiman-Marcus websites and writing legislation that says, there is nothing i can do. There are plenty of active people in our district who are making a change and who see hope. Our voices will be heard. Must be heard for the sake of the children who are aging out of a failed system every year. I hope democrats and republicans realize that this has nothing to do with taking sides. This has to do with creating good, safe schools for our children. Schools that make parents feel good that they are doing everything they can to ensure that their children have the best opportunites.
I voted for Vaught in the last 2 elections because our neighborhood school needs a lot of help. I wanted to see what he's been doing so I just Googled: Allen Vaught neighborhood schools So... I see he's pissed off some people with his promises to help the schools. Can anyone tell me what he's actually done to help the neighborhood schools? I still cannot even fathom putting my kid in ours.
Why is this a candidate of the dark side? I don't know much about him. And what exactly has Vaught done to improve things around here? 1. Gave himself a raise 2. Attempted to pass a massive private school voucher for military children (like his) to attend private pre-K to the tune of over $8K per year per child 3. Supported a bill that allows public school employees to keep their criminal histories secret 4. His beloved neighborhood schools? Vaught should have been screaming from the rooftops about Truett Elementary. Instead the teachers and children in that school made a video for the crappiest school in American competition to try to win $10K from Big Lots. Big Lots! Honestly, he's an embarrassment and a do-nothing of a state representative. If you are referring to anyone from another party as the dark side, you are blindly contributing to more of the same.
I was wondering what campaign I would work on next, and now I know. Allen, count yourself a new volunteer to help you defeat this candidate of the Dark Side.
