A.H. Belo Revenue Drops, But Stock Price Still Rising; Local TV Talks ESPN Comin' to Town

​Two media matters this morning, beginning with A.H. Belo releasing its second-quarter numbers: "Advertising revenue, including print and Internet revenue, was down 30.2 percent, due to declines in retail, general and classified revenues in all AHC markets." The press release has all the stats concerning The Dallas Morning News's parent company, and a conference call with all the Belo bigwigs should provide further details. But, hey, circulation revenue's up -- and so's Belo stock yet again, even despite this morning's news. ...

And Broadcasting & Cable talks to local TV execs about ESPN's entering the DFW market with its Dallas-centric Web site and SportsCenter Mini-Me. So, how do you feel about this, WFAA-Channel 8 president and general manager Mike Devlin? "I see it two ways: Either they're formidable competition, or we discuss the possibilities for partnership. We certainly have a fairly large sports staff." That's the spirit of Texas.
