Gawker points it out, and Google proves it: FOX News's Shep Smith never saw a high-speed car chase he didn't love to narrate. So, Dallas-Garland-Richardson, it our turn! I assume you have nine minutes to spare. Sure you do.
@Toots-
It's not much fun watching a random chase on youtube... this one passed by my office near downtown, and I watched it from the window until they were out of sight, at which point I flipped on the TV.
Just second, third and fourth what has been said above.
This was the Constables from the County-- the cop wanna be's who can't make it as real cops. So they are out there mostly setting up speed traps and making stupid decisions when it comes to chasing.
I had a friend killed by a speeding car being chased by the cops. So unless this person is randomly shooting at people or ramming into cars willy nilly -- let them go and get them later.
I almost got wiped out when they were reconstructing Central and the cops decided to chase someone on the twisting two lane construction. I guess testosterone overrides good sense.

It made for some good TV though, I'm not gonna lie about that one.

If you want more go to YouTube.
If any of you watched this whole car chase, you know how ridiculous it was. They had the chance to t-bone the car at low speeds, off the highway, and they didn't take it. I'm sure the reason was because there's some policy on not doing so to save the department money. But the incompetent idiot who threw out the spikes on 635 and hit innocent bystanders will easily cost more in repairs and legal trouble for them than simply ramming the car that led them on the high speed chase to begin with.
It made for some good TV though, I'm not gonna lie about that one.
All for a check forger? Your JBT dollars hard at work... Stay classy, Dallas.
They did, and at least 3 innocents got flats. The city of Dallas had a policy of not pursuing for more than 5 minutes till they nixed the policy all together.
Those stupid fucking Constables chased this guy for 45 minutes. Good think though, I heard he had a hot check ready to cash right there.
Can you imagine if he had wielded that check, if he hadn't been stopped who knows who'd get hurt.
okay, why didn't they just use the spikes?
It was worth it, the guy was a forger, FORGER! We'd better chase those MFers till the end of the Earth.
These chases are stupid, and the Constables the stupidest of all. Jim, HELLO, have you done a report on the constables running traffic like crazy? How does that affect their budget? Why weren't we all talking about this as election issues?
Shep is the most "fair and balanced" person on Fox, that's for sure.
These car chases always end up in a crash, many times when the cars run red lights. Like I saw several years ago at Fair Oaks and I think Abrams where the police car broad-sided the Ford Bronco, killing instantly a mother and daughter before my eyes. The police officer was Care-Flite-ed in critical condition.
The next time anyone gets Macho-Rambo-Mambo on us and criticizes Dallas police chief David Kunkle for ending these chases in Dallas, remind yourself that the guy those police were chasing that afternoon ...when they killed those two women... was a guy who had stolen a car. And for that both cars raced through a red light intersection pushing 90 MPH?
No one in their right mind can see urban car chases as a logical gamble. Yet Kunkle still catches flack for quashing them. Just guessing but; had that mother and daughter been any of Kunkle's critics' wife and child, they'd applaud his decision. Just a guess.
