The Trinity River creeps up on the Margearet Hunt Hill Bridge construction site.
This was the scene at the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge construction site not too long ago, shot right in the thick of the last big downpour before the morning's storm cleared out.
The Trinity River looked as mighty as ever, submerging the trunks of trees in the floodway -- and the tracks on the construction equipment down by the bridge pillars. And, for those unaware of the news, the Delta pump station at Hampton Road and Canada Drive is out, and residents near that part of West Dallas have been told to seek higher ground.

Turtle Creek had a lot more momentum behind it this morning, especially around the dam at Turtle Creek Court.
The Trinity was way up those levees last night. It was really rather pretty. Nearby Industrial Blvd. looked quite dry. So of course, between the levees is the only reasonable place to build a tollroad.
Did anyone else see the White Rock Lake spillway yesterday? You couldn't even see the concrete "steps" out on the spillway, there was so much water. It was just one huge cascading sheet of foamy brown water, with no distinct levels as you normally have after a good rain. Spooky.
I drive over the Singleton/Continental bridge twice a day...
Water was up in the cabs of those cranes this morning, around 7:30am...
I'm just sayin'.
And the City just used the $29M earmarked for the Able pump station re-do to fund a study of the levees? God is watching...
Wow! Thanks for the wonderful pictures. Our Trinity River seems to get a bad rap sometimes - just about every large river in the country has treated water flowing through it and the treated water is reused downstream just about everywhere. It is really beautiful down there in those Bottoms if they would just let us in. Also, I think people forget that 12 to 14 million people depend on the Trinity River Basin as their source of water including Fort Worth, Dallas, and Houston...
Stuck at home all day with down wires, no cable, nuthin' to do, so I've been on the USGS site watching upstream Trinity River reservoir levels. Hey! Did I ever claim to have an interesting life? Anyway, some of those levels have really spiked today. All that extra water's gotta come this way at some point. Let's hope they'll be gentle with us.

FrontBurner has become more leisurely in the past few months. Maybe too much defense of their "snarkiness" wore them out?
call me crazy, but you know what I hate? everything! hotels! taxes!! ahh i'm angry!!! life is not fair!!!!!!!
and our brand new city owned hotel will have a great view of all the "progress". i can't wait for the future.

Indeed, ROB, which is when exactly when Jim's expected to storm the levees for a late-evening skinny dip. He had to excuse himself from this morning's photo shoot in anticipation of this occasion. Something about buying bubble bath.
The Trinity is expected to crest at something like seven feet higher than it is in those photos.
i've got an idea: let's build a road down there in between the levees and charge people to drive on it
