• Bill, several people in the comments (including me) acknowledged that his points were well-taken. Dallas has, and probably always will have, a nouveau riche soul -- <i>the more money we let people know we spent, the more elegant we'll be!</i> That said, it's his contemptuous attitude -- particularly his implication that High Art should be reserved for some special elect, not to sullied by the bourgeois masses -- that's off-putting. It's also easily mocked, since he seems fundamentally effete. And in any event, what is it about the assumption that Dallas is full of oil-men-in-Stetsons that makes <i>him</i> greatly sophisticated (he's confident, all right)?

• Interesting how worked up folks get over criticism of their own town, even when it comes from -- of all people -- a member of Eastern professoriate. Folks, this does not suggest great sophistication or self-confidence.

• Um Faux no guru This looks like a real nice skyline to me, and a vantage point that I'm not used to. The HDR is appropriate, given the subject.

• Will someone tell these fauxtographers that Reunion Tower is NOT a good vantage point for a great skyline shot. Even if it's overdosed in HDR.

• I worked at this dude's university for 2 years. They're all like this. P.S. They don't only resent cosmopolitan urban areas south of the Mason Dixon line; they equally, if not more, HATE the blonde, southern types with manicured nails and eyebrows.
