Best. House Energy and Commerce Committee Meeting. Ever. From this morning in D.C.: "The Bowl Championship Series: Money and Other Issues of Fairness for Publicly Financed Universities." Smokey Joe Barton of Arlington wants to ditch the BCS and go to a college-football playoff system, and he's got the legislation to prove it. Which is why this morning he posted to his YouTube page his appearance on ESPN's Outside the Lines, during which he debated John Swofford, commissioner of the Atlantic Coast Conference and coordinator of the Bowl Championship Series. Barton thinks the BCS is communism. Isn't everything these days?
The odd thing is, I actually agree with Smokey on something. I guess a broken clock is right twice a day.
football is an easy target, like tobacco and trans-fat. don't ask these guys to address real issues.
Doesn't the government have enough real issues on its plate? Last I heard our economy is in tank, we got troops overseas, and we are all going to die from flying pigs pooping on our heads and giving us the flu.
I will go along with JB with the following proviso. The game is not official until the end of that school year and each team loses seven points for each senior that does not graduate. Right now the colleges are running a defacto professional league and the 'student'/athletes are on the short end of the stick.
There are few things The Big Guy could think of that The Big Guy could agree with more than JB doing this.
Hell, The Big Guy might even give JB money
