Erykah Badu Sings (and Teaches) the Blues

• She's absolutely gorgeous. Seeing her smile, rare as it is (in public, at least), is like being in the presence of Shiva or something. She's a total credit to our burg. Sorry, Austin -- maybe someday you'll get your own Erykah. (First step would be getting some black people. No, a white boy from suburban Houston who has dreads and calls himself Jahrusha doesn't count. At all.) /gratuitous dig at Austin

• I was there! The House of Blues has a foundation called Schoolhouse of Blues and offers these shows (with a tour of their folk art collection) for free for DISD or $5 per child out of district. Our music teacher attended a required 3 hour training course in order for us to attend. I highly recommend this wonderful opportunity for kids. The show starts in the early 1700s and traces the migration of Africans and their cultural influence that created the blues to present day. Thank you HOB!

• Damn, I would have loved to have seen/heard that. Guess I'll have to make due with seeing Roger Boykin & Anne Bothwell present "When Funk Was King: The South Dallas Pop Festival" and Angus Wynne's "Lewd and Loose in Lewisville: The Texas International Pop Festival" at the Texas Music Conference at the downtown Dallas Public Library on May 30, 2009. http://dallaslibrary.org/fineArts/conferenceTexasMusic09.php

• Oh my God I'd have walked barefoot from Webbs Chapel Extention to the Lancaster city limits to be there for that. Next time I'm going to pose as a Catholic school pre-teen and hope for the best. <i>"On and on..."</i>
