• At last someone has relised the potential of Sunderland AFC. 40,000 plus every home game and that's scraping around the bottom of the league. All you need is six or seven good players and you'll see the Stadium of Light shine on. And if it doesn't we won't cry like them 12 miles up the road. Ellis Short for Prime Minister!

• Whilst it is true Sunderland have had a very poor season I think many Americans would be suprised at how relatively big the club actually is. The "Black Cats" are in the top 6 of attendances in England and their home ground (The Stadium Of Light) has often been voted the loudest in the Premier League. Sunderland's glory days unfolded long before the advent of saturation TV coverage of soccer, but people of a certain age will tell you Sunderland are one of England's most cherished and historic football clubs.
