Dallas Angels Come This Close to Capturing Second Homeschool World Series Title

• Ditto that Luke! I started playing back in 1990 with first homeschool team that was put together by Mr. Hughes. Like luke says we were known as the Royals. We played through the YMCA. It was when we all became to old to play through the YMCA that decision was made to keep the team together. There was one problem--who were we going to play? Most kids junior high aged above simply played sports for their respective schools. So we decided to create an avenue for us, and that is how HSAA was formed. We started off playing a few private schools and in some select leagues like BBI Lone Star. We played just about any team that was willing to play a game with us. From that it has grown to what it has become today. Now we have our own homeschool league and as we see in the article and have teams all across America! I would have never thought back then that I would be reading about the results of the World Series of Homeschool Baseball. Thank you so much to all the dedicated parents have given so much to provide what we have today, academically physically and spiritually. Thanks!

• I started playing for the HSAA Angels back when we were the Royals (1993-2000). I continued playing for the Angels all the way through high school. Those were some of the best years of my life! I owe a lot to the parents and coaches who made that experience possible for me! Thank you Mr. Hughes for starting HSAA all those years ago! It's been a lot of fun hearing about the success of the Angels over the years! To all you people who think Homeschoolers are a bunch of Bible thumpin weirdos who have received a half rate education, the HSAA Angels are a perfect example of the sort of excellence that has been produced as a result of the homeschooling movement over the years. It's funny how much can be accomplished when quality time and attention is put into a child's education. If you are going up against a homeschooler in a battle of intelligence, athletics, creativity, or anything else... as the sports world might say, "You better bring your A game"!

• I have watched the Angels play for the last year and a half and have been extremely impressed with every aspect of the team. This team consists of highly talented and competitive highschool athletes and very knowledgeable coaches. They performed very well together this year to bring back a 2nd place among the best homeschool teams in the country. They routinely had players on the 3A highschool leader board in several categories, such as, wins, homeruns, and batting average. Their sportsmanship was exemplary, which was shown by the fact that neither a player nor a coach was ejected the entire season. This really says something, because with some of the calls they received, I for one, would have been ejected several times. This team is made up of excellent young men and coaches and has been a joy to watch. GO ANGELS!!!

• I'm also proud to be on the Angels Varsity baseball team and Tyler's comments couldn't be more true. Unfortunately, any common observer can't make a rational judgment about our team. You simply have to watch us play to understand how we win ballgames. Our homeschool baseball team beat a stacked powerhouse like Fort Worth Country Day School 7 -3 with only 5 starters and 4 JV players. Our team has competed with the best private school teams in the area like Dallas Christian, ESD, St. Marks, and Legacy Christian. We hear comments like that of "RC-1" (above) very often about how we play hard, we never give up, we have lots of talent, and we give them great competition. The one thing coaches tell us the most is that we play with a Christ-like attitude and our sportsmanship is exemplary. That's the reason we play and that's why I've always been proud to be a Dallas Angel whether we win or lose.

• Im on the team who just went too the championship, and anyone who thinks this is recreational baseball of somesort is wrong. I am a pitcher who recieved a 60% scholarship to pitch for Ouchita Baptist University, who is the number 2 division 2 NCAA school in the nation. Our Catcher is being looked at by numerous junior colleges, our centerfielder has made some of the best catches in outfield many coaches had ever seen. Dallas Christian told us that we were the best competition they had played all year, and there season consisted mostly of 5a public school around the DFW metroplex. So anyone who does not think we are a competitive organization needs to come watch us play.

• My son has played in the HSAA Angels baseball program for two years now (Middle School and JV) and I can tell you RC-1's comment is right on. • my son played HS ball and we played these guys every year at least twice. You would be surprised at how intense these guys are. They are coached quite well, and their sportsmanship is undeniable. In all, I would say they're quite competitive and have learned the game well. Now you people with snarky comments have some firsthand information.!!

• Bob, I believe the proper name of this event is "Homeschool World Series Association 2009 World Series Championships of Associated Homeschools of the World". I can't vouch for the quality of a homeschooled baseball player, but I imagine that the HSAA probably dominates in ice skating, gymnastics and Bible Bowl.
