Roger Staubach Tosses Enough is Enough's First Pro-Hotel Radio Ad. Really.

I like the title of the first Enough is Enough radio ad: "Really." Oh, really? Really. Anyway. As we've noted before, Roger Staubach's part of this pro-hotel group, and his is the voice heard at the end of the 60-second spot. But before you get to Captain Comeback's pitch, there's another voice warming up the crowd: "Personal attacks. Name-calling. Mudslinging. This is not how we do business in Dallas." Really. Then, the hard sell: "Building the hotel could bring us thousands of jobs and inject billions into our economy, and the hotel will not be paid for with our tax dollars." Oh, really? (Now I see how this works.) Then, No. 12 on your Dallas Cowboys but No. 1 in your hearts ...

This is Roger Staubach. I've worked in the Dallas real estate market for many years, as well as other real estate markets around the country, and I know what a new convention center hotel can mean to our city. A new convention center hotel can give a real boost to our convention business, as well as our city's economy. Let's work together to bring new opportunities and new jobs to Dallas. Please join me in voting no on Saturday, May 9th.

Well, everyone knows being an ex-pro-athlete prepares you for a real estate-related career. I think that's why the playbook is so thick, there's all that stuff in there about how to choose the best bricks, foundation repair, and buying and selling real estate. /sarcasm It's been said above, but needs to be emphasized: if Roger thinks it's such a good investment, why didn't the Staubach Company build it and operate it?

If the hotel was a good idea why didn't Staubach and his development firm build it? The hotel project is risky private developers won't touch with city money. Vote Yes on Prop. 1 to stop the city owned hotel.
Bringing out Roger the Dodger won't help "Enough is Enough" dirty fight crybabies. They did finally realize keeping Dallas Mayor "Liar, Liar" Leppert out in the public eye as much as they have has been hurting them trememdously. Fool me once; Shame on you, Fool me twice, Shame on me. Dallas' taxpayer voters won't be fooled a second (Trinity River Development Vote) time. Vote YES, May 9th against the proposed Dallas taxpayer-funded Covention Center Hotel.
�And the hotel will not be paid for with our tax dollars� It's my understanding that they would use the same kind of revenue bonds the financed the Convention Center expansion. And no money has ever come out of the general fund to make up any shortfalls for that, right? Right? Except for the $3.9 million in 06/07 that came from the general fund. Oh, and the $3.9 million in 07/08 And, not to mention, the $2.4 million in 08/09. So yeah, as long as the hotel meets or exceeds its unlikely, pie-in-the-sky breakeven projections (plus, they have to pay back the $50 million reserve fund if/when any of those funds are used), no taxpayer money will be used on the hotel. Just like none was used to pay on the convention center expansion bonds.
Radio ad - �And the hotel will not be paid for with our tax dollars� Is this a true statement? It is my recollection that the mayor has overtly stated in two debates and in interviews that the taxpayer is absolutely and ultimately liable and that any revenue bonds to be sold will be �special� revenue bonds where by the taxpayer will ultimately be responsible when the debt cannot be paid for out of operations. Additionally, about $75,000,000 has already been spent, which it is my understanding that a portion of that will be a city (taxpayer) contribution. Is the pro-hotel group now asserting that �the hotel will not be paid for with our tax dollars�? What exactly does this statement mean? Is it absolute? Are the pro-hotelers, including the mayor, willing to put up a cash bond to ensure this statement? Would they be willing to sign personal recourse letters of guaranty in lieu of having the taxpayer guarantee the bond issue? This is how it is done in the private sector. You have to pledge your personal wealth. The bond issue will not sell backed solely by hotel operating revenues because it is not feasible. What what�s up with this statement? How can this statement be true?
Naw, we need Clint Longley leading the anti-hotel group. Maybe Clint and Roger could duke it out at City Hall.... winner take all.
Maybe Craig Morton can voice the anti-hotel commercial?

You know, I am really starting to be believe the "No" vote is going to win. It's too much of a media blitz and bringing on Staubach will guarantee a huge number of voters who would have stayed home will crawl out from under their rocks. "Dallas, your can't do city!"�
If the 'YES' people had any real poker-playing ability, they'd pay Jerry Jones half a million dollars to do a 'Pro-Hotel'---'Vote NO!' ad.
Chris: Amen, Bubba! Maybe they can attach the Roger Staubach Hall of Fame to the hotel too! For some reason Dallas has billionaires and millionaires asking for Joe Public to foot the bills for their grand projects.
I am confused Roger, if it will mean so much for Dallas, why did you not build it?
