Apparently, this particular brand of smash-and-grab is turning into a trend: Police warn that such "ATM bucket raids" are on the rise. According to the media alert, "a bucket raid is where suspects steal construction equipment and use that equipment to force entry into a hardened target or use it to break free a drive-thru ATM that has been anchored to the ground." Dallas police spokesman Senior Cpl. Kevin Janse estimates there have been "about a half dozen in the last few months," and that such robberies are becoming more common. So, be warned: If you see heavy machinery on the move at night, get out of the way. And call the cops.
