This is the first in a morning series of videos provided by members of Your Dallas City Council. First up, this lengthy offering from Angela Hunt (co-starring assistant city manager Jill Jordan), who writes on her Web site by way of introduction today, "If you've got 20 minutes on your hands and a hankering to see what goes on at the City Council when we talk about the Trinity flood control levees and toll road (and the obfuscation that occurs), then enjoy."
Another reason the center of the Metroplex is moving towards Las Colinas.
Yes, Ms. AsSuhm, just where are those buckets of money and how much is in them? Your pants are on fire just like Leppert the Liar.
Oh my fucking GAWD. This is the scariest thing I've ever seen. I still haven't quite understood why this road is needed in the first place let alone a design that's so questionable.
To tie this into what was *originally* voted upon and hold that hostage is... hell, I can't think of something less than a paragraph...but it's almost like the Calatrava bridges are a blessing by comparison.
No small wonder the NTTA is trying to get out of this. This is begging for a repeat of Katrina. I guess that's the cool thing about working for a government, you get a teflon shield for backing this kind of stuff, at least until the voters wise up.
Kudos to Angela and (even) Mitchell for slapping those silly bastards.
You have to remember that Suhm's been at City Hall since the beginning of the Trinity River Project, and is as personally invested in it as Mayor Leppert. This train will not change tracks until something really dramatic happens or they are both gone.
And also keep in mind that staff works for Suhm, not the councilmembers. That's why you see all the stammering and sputtering, desperately trying to stay on script: Mary's watching, and she wants this toll road as much as Tom. It's her legacy, too.
Take a look at 18:00 and see how Suhm reacts when Rasansky tells her he didn't understand what she had said. Contemptuous gold!
I was there on Wednesday and it was definitely entertaining. The reactions to Angela were fascinating.
Jordan stammered and danced while trying not to lie outright.
Neumann recited his talking points and then waited for a gold star and pat on the head.
Leppert seemed bored with it all, probably because he assumes he's already won.
Suhm could barely disguise her contempt at the idea of mere City Council members questioning her.
levees? we don't need no stinking levees.
Man, that Mary Suhm is a piece of work... carrying on side conversations during critical points during Council discussions, then... she appears to flat out lie to Rasansky about the NTTA until Angela Hunt calls her out on it.
This is crazy. In my organization, people who try to play fast and loose with the truth (like Mary Suhm on an extremely important issue here) get shown the door pretty quickly.
What else does she blow smoke about? Her behavior is pretty unnerving.
The Tollroad To Nowhere. This patient shouldn't even be on life support anymore. It's time to pull the plug and focus on more urgent needs - LIKE FIXING THE LEVEES.
Wow. It looks like Leppert is going to get his way and the test of us be damned. Or drowned!
The Levinthal story in the Morning News yesterday (http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/dn/latestnews/stories/030809dnmetleppert.3c0897e.html)
ran under the headline, "Dallas Mayor Leppert's ambitious agenda challenged by economy, politics." But if you watch this video to the end and listen to Sam's interview with Leppert, I think it's clear that Leppert's problems are not changed conditions. Leppert's problem is that he repeatedly said things and promised things that were not true when he said them. Who knows who will run against him, but if I were doing the TV ads, I would have lots of images of him with his pants on fire. And then I'd do the other obvious one: him with his hands in his pockets over a big caption: "WAMU! WHO KNEW?"
HSH:
I tried getting Leppert to comment, but <a href="http://blogs.dallasobserver.com/unfairpark/2009/02/mayor_tom_leppert_trinity_turn.php" target="_blank">he gave me nada</a>.
Id wish for Goofy to listen to this, but this is the same guy who <a href="http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/dn/localnews/columnists/sblow/stories/DN-blow_25met.ART.North.Edition1.43ede72.html" target="_blank">once wrote</a>: The truth is that a far greater number of people will enjoy the new Trinity parks through their windshields than in a kayak or on a jogging path. And that's OK. That's the way I most often enjoy White Rock Lake.
She's so hot.
Yes it is, and Sam, thanks for your contribution. I think it's time you again asked the last question to our Mayor. That is, if you can get past Chris Heinbaugh.
Oh, and do you think we can get Steve Blow to listen to this?
At more than 22 minutes, this is quite a time commitment, but watch every second -- it's worth it!
