Bill Blayes, Alan Walne and Donna Halstead -- The Ex-Council Members out of costume!

Few days back we peeked at Carolyn Davis and Dwaine Caraway's what-updates as served up on Dallas Delivers, the city's riotous no-holds-barred talk show served up on Time Warner Cable Channel 16. Alas, some of us don't have the cables, so the city's been posting throughout the week the entire series on YouTube; I'm totally getting the boxed set for my father for his birthday.

There are so many episodes from which to choose -- hard to recommend just one, much like the short-lived Andy Richter Controls the Universe, out on DVD on March 24. There's Tennell Atkins's chat with, among others, assistant city manager Forest Tucker and a DPD community liasion about crack houses, prostitution and the "loose dog issue" in District 8; Steve Salazar discussing some kinda business boom around Bachman Lake with Sharon Boyd; and Vonciel Jones Hill talking Southern Dallas development with assistant city manager A.C. Gonzalez and Joyce Foreman. But after the jump, a Very Special Episode of Jerry Allen's District 10 update -- featuring former council members Bill Blaydes, Alan Walne and Donna Halstead. Dreams really do come true.

There have been quite a few apt. complexes demolished and with the rail lines there's a lot of dust but the Mexicans have really spruced up the area. Ah, haaa, I know the problem, you're comparing it to the good old White days. Well long ago it was primarily Black. That area has increasingly become more Latin since then. This has resulted in a reduction in crime in those apts. I lived there, my Grandfather has owned condos there for quite some time. He has made this same claim.
Well, Carolyn Davis herself is all the ammunition anyone needs to vote against her. If TLep is smart, he should get behind someone else, now (and his name does not rhyme with Lon Dice) (hmm, wonder if Ron Price ever bothers to read this blog?) Ohm there it was, just saw Blaydes's money shot!
Isn't it interesting that all of the City Council incumbents get a little free face time just prior to the upcoming election? The Cold Gray Mayor cannot afford to lose any seats to challengers who challenge the incumbents AND stand to oppose his strong-armed Mayor tactics as well. Allen, Blaydes, Walne and Halstead are four heads sharing one brain. Unfortunately for the residents of District 10, that brain belongs to Tom Leppert. District 10 has suffered long enough from the backroom deals and pet projects supported by these four lapdogs of the DCC. "Scrapin' dirt", indeed! I am delighted to see Don Sanders take on Jerry Allen and the good ol' boy network represented by this cast of characters. I hope that May 9th will be remembered as the day when District 10 regained its voice at City Hall. Go, Don, go!

I thought there was a joke or confrontation hidden in there somehere, but I guess the joke's on me. Allow me to warn others not to waste six-and-a-half minutes on this. Here is the highlight: From about 3:40 to 3:48, Jerry gets animated! He uses a vigorous "I'm fondling breats" gesture to illustrate the concept of "youth."
Sharon Boyd thinks that the area around Bachman has <i>improved</i> since they got rid of the topless bars? She's nuts. The strip of NW Hwy along Bachman is a <i>total dump</i> compared to 15-20 years ago. The closed topless bars are still vacant, with grafitti all over them. Several large former restaurants are also vacant. The park itself has had some improvements, but on a nice weekend, it's so jam-packed that you can't really enjoy it. The former European Crossroads, or what's left of it, is in terrible shape, especially the back side of it. The apartments nearby are a known high-crime area. I suspect that Boyd thinks it's wonderful mainly because they got rid of the strip clubs, but in almost every other way it's gone downhill.
