Dallas Galleria Is Losing a Longtime Tenant as Mark Shale Goes into Bankruptcy

An employee at the Galleria location told Unfair Park this evening that the shuttering "isn't surprising in this economy, because we could look at the numbers and see what was happening," but the closure comes as a blow nonetheless. There used to be two Dallas Mark Shale locations, but the once-popular Preston Center spot closed in the 1990s, the first time the clothing store filed for bankruptcy. Come this time next week there will be none, except in the company's hometown of Chicago. A clearance sale's under way at the Galleria, with 30 percent off everything. But drastic cuts are expected every day in advance of Sunday's finale.

You would go in, tell them what you were looking for, and a trained and experienced clothier would strive to take care of you. Once you built a relationship, the recommedations got even better. People think they know what looks good on them, but if you look around, they clearly don't. If you let Mark Shale do its job, you would be a significantly better dressed person. They will be missed.

My father used to love to slur my rugby mates and myself, "you don't have sense to come in from the rain." Well, it is actually a blast to play in the rain. After a rugby game, you need a shower--eventually, either way.
I think this is a serious point. How does a suit and tie make someone more credible? I for one don't get dazzled by the pin-stripes. Maybe that doesn't make me conventional or smart. But, why wear $1000 only to be uncomfortable.
This is a sure sign that symbols and pretense are more important than substance. Here filling out the perfunctory form is all that is asked, due diligence? Hell, that is for people who can't afford our overpriced and uncomfortable sweat-suits.
This is a perfect symbol for go along to get along, for not rocking the boat. Again, this is the opposite of due diligence and the total co-option of ornamentation over function. I went to school with these guys and they DON'T know their fundamentals, they aren't curious, and they resent being challenged.

I will miss their level of service; I don't think it exists elsewhere.

It's unfortunate that people like you cannot appreciate the level of proffesionalism when you walk into a store like Mark Shale. To have sales profesionals who can fit you with quality merchandise whether it's a 1000.00 or 500.00 and walk out looking and feeling damned good.
Too bad slobs like you missed the chance. I've seen you walking around with your baggy ill-fitting suit on trying to sell something.

I have been shopping at Mark Shale for over 16 years. Kobe Arthur has been my sales guy the whole time...his level of professionalism and knowledge of what is in style is beyond approach. I will miss Mark Shale and the awesome service they have provided over the years...Not another store around Dallas that can compare....

I never failed to receive a thank you note following my purchases. I will miss them immensely as well as Mark Shale's excellent product. Damn this economy.

Great collection of clothes. things you couldn't find anywhere else. i especially liked their collection of shoes and sweaters. i have shopped there since the 80s but hated the racist atmosphere that has long been sustained in that place. i know they have black salespeople but the racism endures. i've never been able to walk in there without being followed.

It's unfortunate that some people just seem to see racism where it doesn't exist. Kobe was my go-to man at Mark Shale, but if he was not there, other qualified sales people there always took care of me. I like shopping at Nordstroms, but I LOVED shopping at Mark Shale. Kobe and company will be sorely missed.
