yeah, those cars look more like the 40s than the 20s.

My father, born here in '44 and an auto-parts man his whole life (like his father before him), is appropriately ashamed that I missed so obvious a sign, the cars. He also mentions that the Esquire, far as he recalls, doesn't date back to the 1920s. "Schmuck," he mumbled before hanging up the phone in disgrace.

I'm not sure where all these photos came from, they're all on printed sheets of paper so I'd love to know who took the 1990 ones.
The Esquire! I have a very vivid childhood memory of seeing the giant wooden "Trojan Rabbit" parked on the sidewalk outside the theater when "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" premiered in Dallas. I remember when they tore the Esquire down. I'm STILL pissed about that.

1) Walkable, pedestrian friendly streets.
2) Low, close to the street small retail with parking out front.
3) Trolley and light rail, with development around the stops
4)NO Elevated freeways dissecting the neighborhoods.
Things in short supply in Dallas today were already here 100 years ago.
Just look at the difference in the traffic flow on Henderson vs. Victory on a Saturday night.
Cold and plastic doesn't sell.
