Angela Hunt's Trinity Corridor Plan B

The ride in to work this morning on the solar-powered water taxi was smooth sailing -- highly recommended!
Last week, Angela Hunt was close to posting on her Web site a Trinity River Corridor Project Plan B -- the name of Jim Schutze's new band, so happens. Instead, she fleshed it out with a flash-forward and gave it to The Dallas Morning News, where it appears this morning. To summarize: Fix the levees; get going on Project Pegasus and straighten out S.M. Wright's Dead Man's Curve, among other transportation needs outlined in the Trinity River Corridor Project plan; and make good on the Trinity River park, lakes and trails already, for God's sakes. Writes Hunt:
We can no longer allow the toll road's delay and uncertainty to prevent Dallas from moving forward in addressing our transportation and flood control needs and in fulfilling the promise of a great park. Plan B will allow us to finally realize the dream of the Trinity River project.

Some city leaders refuse to acknowledge the need for Plan B, dismissing concerns about the toll road as defeatist. This approach appears less and less prudent as problems with the toll road compound and its billion-dollar funding gap grows.

I saw her op-ed piece this morning & there were comments. Now those are all gone. Mostly about how she should be mayor. Guess they didn't like it. Or maybe Caraway has something on them & made them take the comments down.

Cracker Daddy says:

Cracker Daddy loves him some Angela Hunt and thinks Dwayne Caraway is a pus-bag. Of course the city won't go with Plan B -- makes too much sense.

JF says:

I like her plans for the Trinity.

But I have to laugh every time I see the drawing with the solar-powered water taxi...

Hey - the comments on the DMN op-ed page are back. Magic & trickery.

chris von danger says:

DMN has been expericing issues with their scripting that runs the comments section causing dropouts at random, usually that can be blamed on a bad sysadmin who doesnt want to fix their problems.

On Angelas Plan B: It makes the mose sense. The Levees need to be updated and repaired, not to mention the fact the S&M can be turned into an amazing grand avenue as well as getting our park land/lakes into gear.

On her becoming mayor: It makes I think she would make an amazing mayor, she seems to "get it" when it comes to the common man and his views when it comes to cleaning up the city and making it a great place to live.

Waterlewd says:

That is Plan A -- sold to the citizens back in 1998. I bet there are roads for park access for Dallas residents, not roads for park bypass for Sunnyvale residents.

scott says:

If you substituted the odd white things for trees you'd have a great natural plan that would cost nothing. Hell, you could nearly get that done by getting 5 Eagle Scout projects to co-ordinate that shit. Plant 20 trees on the rise from the extra dirt from a couple of side ditches.

It's really hard to see how that would cost more than $100,000!

Chris says:

I still have not seen info on who is going to pay for the park clean up and renovations after the trinity floods. (which it will)

Posted On: Thursday, Mar. 26 2009 @ 10:08AM
scott says:

Chris, if we're talking about soccer fields all you do is mow the thing and pull any trees or debris to the side. There are many soccer fields that flood just as frequently. Of course the tendency is to build more and more elaborate amenities. Simple switchbacks on compacted roadbase would allow wheelchair access.

We can do so much if we'd do things incrementally, which is the natural process. We should encourage some Mexicans to go down and mow a soccer field clear for themselves. Let that pass for a month and we'd have Trinity bottom soccer leagues down there.

Except the city would never allow that. Maybe they should move the urban rodeo down there.

El Rey says:

While they are mowing the soccer field, how about a Aussie Rules Football / Cricket pitch, too? We really need a good location in Dallas, instead of Richardson.

scott says:

If Aussie rules were a legitimate sport El Rey I might agree. But, that is a bastardized abomination. If those guys want to play with a rugby ball on a field they can play rugby.

Cricket? Who has the time?

Jay says:

Playing Cricket between the levies. Awesome. Where do I sign up?

Posted On: Thursday, Mar. 26 2009 @ 1:53PM
JB says:

So I undrstand that building the tollway inside the levies is a bad idea. What I don't get is why building a park is a good idea. Won't the same potential floods just wash all this away? is there someting I am not getting?

Thank God.......
Said Rawlins: "All I wanted to hear her say she said today."

(Isnt that the name of Schutze's band's first single?)

Tom L (No, Not That L) says:

@scott

"Aussie rules ... is a bastardized abomination."

You say that as if it were a bad thing.
