Ex-DPD Chief Terrell Bolton Is Back in Dallas As DeKalb County CEO Restricts His Power

Categories: News You Can Actually Use, Actually

Our old friend Terrell Bolton, who has since moved on to become police chief in DeKalb County, Georgia, is back in Dallas. He made the trip to visit his long-time physician after losing about 12 pounds in a two-week span, which led to his hospitalization Saturday followed by a diagnosis of diabetes yesterday.

As a result, Bolton has been put on leave "until further notice" by DeKalb County CEO Burrell Ellis, which comes as news to Bolton. What shouldn't come as a surprise to Bolton, however, is Ellis's signature on an executive order prohibiting Bolton from transferring, promoting, demoting or disciplining any employees, which Ellis announced recently at a police academy graduation. Bolton wasn't too pleased as evidenced by the footage below. I wonder if Chief David Kunkle can make a face like that.

Bolton must now answer to the DeKalb County dogcatcher.

Steven R says:

It boggles my mind that the man still has a job in law enforcement. You have to wonder how DeKalb County got stuck with a lemon like Bolton. You'd think a Google search back when they were hiring would have taken him out of the running. You know, crime in DeKalb is way up in 2008. Violent crime, 5%, Property crime, 12%, murder, 17%.

Sound familiar? The saddest/funniest part is that Bolton's had more controversy there than he did here. There's tons of YouTube stuff from the local media about his "Comp Time" scandal. Seems he managed to take the equivalent of 5 months off in his first two years on the job. Claimed that all days off in addition to holidays and vacation were Comp Time. Huh?

All the YouTube stuff is posted by a group called Dekalbofficers. So, he's a big hit with the Troops, too.

Geez, this guy is a train wreck.

They asked for it. The man is an idiot

DeKalb Resident says:

We didn't ask for Bolton. Bolton was hired by our ex-CEO, Vernon Jones. He knew Bolton was a contraversial hire, Bolton was not on the list of candidates suggested by a panel, and he was the only candidate considered who had been fired. Vernon Jones hired him anyway and then presented him as a "Christmas Gift to the citizens of DeKalb." Is there a return policy on that gift??

Maybe the DeKalb County CEO should hire Dan Reeves as a consultant....

Paco Ramirez says:

Laura Miller, former Dallas Mayor, had it right. Bolton is an idiot. He is also apparently crooked if we are to believe he earns 5 months of 'comp-time' in only two years. They might also want to check his overtime claims too.

Just wondering, have you texans seen any of the missing high dollar seized vehicles there from the dekalb narcotics unit. They began disappearing once tebo came.

TeBo said he will be back in Atlanta Monday. Is it anyway you all can talk him into staying there. Maybe if you made him Chief of the Dog Pound.

Joyce says:

Sound likes a lot of jealous people there in Dekalb County Georgia. You all seem to like him when he was first hired. And let's not talk about Dallas. Crime is high there since that slow talking Kunkle took over. Now that's a"true idiot"

Posted On: Tuesday, Feb. 10 2009 @ 9:49PM
Amanda says:

my boyfriend is DeKalb County cop and hardly anyone in DKPD likes Bolton. I don't blame them. Tebo seemed like a likable guy at first but keeping seized cars in his possession and taking 5 months off in comp time is uncalled for especially when my tax dollars are paying for that. You all probably remember when officers Barker and Bryant were gunned down last January...shortly after that, tebo took some time off! How disrespectful! So I guess his lawyer is going to use his diabetes as an argument, since his diabetes is recent, that doesn't excuse him from the 5 months he took off. and at all the DKPD academy graduations that I now of, tebo was always late and Jones never even showed up. don't even get me started on Jones...I hope that guy rots in hell.
