In Afghanistan on Tuesday, a 22-Year-Old Army Specialist From Frisco Was Killed

The Department of Defense announced today that on Tuesday, Army Specialist Peter John Courcy of Frisco was killed in Salerno, Afghanistan. The 22-year-old Courcy and 19-year-old Pfc. Jason Watson of Louisiana, both of whom had been based out of Fort Campbell in Kentucky, died of injuries suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near their vehicle. According to the Patriot Guard Riders Web site, funeral services will take place some time next week in Lewisville, after which Courcy will be laid to rest at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.

Fort Campbell's press office has just posted Courcy's biography, which reads as follows:
Courcy was an infantryman who entered the Army in July 2006 and arrived at Fort Campbell in March 2007. His awards and decorations include: Army Achievement Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Army Service Ribbon; Air Assault Badge; Parachutist Badge; and Weapons Qualification, M4, expert.
Courcy, whose mother and step-father live in Frisco, also leaves behind a wife and a 5-month-old son.
