Her Sights Always 'Set on New York,' Dallas-Born Dancer Carolyn George Has Died
|Carolyn George made her Broadway debut in the 1954 revival of Rodgers and Hart's On Your Toes.|
Her Texas roots are deep. As The Times notes:
[She] was descended from some of the first settlers in Waco, Tex. Her achievements and aspirations were regularly chronicled by Dallas newspapers. But as she recalled later, "I had my sights set on New York." Interviewed in the Dallas Times Herald in 1959, the year she left City Ballet, she noted that since there were no professional dance companies in Dallas, "the only professional experience I had before trying a dancing career was gained in Dallas summer musicals."
