Looks like Elliott's Hardware's pitch to the former president paid off and then some, as the freshly unpacked Dallas resident made a "surprise" (so said the press release, anyway) swing by the Maple Avenue store today to pick up his name tag and dark-blue uni. Said the ex-president, according to the Elliott's e-mail we got this afternoon, "I'm looking for a job." Get in line.

It's too big and too complex on a global scale for any single US administration to produce. The causes and effects are spread out all over the world. I agree we've had better leaders. But let's keep in mind that the president is not king. While the economy has taken a nose dive on W.'s watch, the problems have been building for years. In the 1950's, Americans used to have one of the highest savings rates in the world. Over time, we've become a nation that lives well beyond its means - both individually and collectively. Secondly, a major cause of the housing problem (and subsequent problems it helped trigger) was the initiative in a previous administration to make home ownership available to even those who really couldn't afford it. You can thank Barney Frank and Chris Dodd for this.

If you feel like he should be prosecuted, then go for it - But do something. What good is it just blasting back and forth. What battle is won on this board? That was the point of my comment. Obama is in office now and I think it is great. Obama is asking for action...Not words. What good would it do for Obama to point fingers and say, "Look at what I'm left with...We are just screwed." He is taking action, promoting change. The strong words and hateful language are more of the same, and nothing new. Can we all honestly say we have no blood on our hands?
