mystery solved!

nobody wants to hear about your stub.
Dominic Pedler figured out the "Hard Day's Night" chord in his book Songwriting Secrets of the Beatles, which came out in 2003, before Brown's analysis. And it's not just a matter of doing an FFT, which will tell you what frequencies are present, but not which instrument generated them.
Anyway, Pedler's book is well worth getting if you're into this sort of thing, although you may have to order it from the UK or look for it on eBay. You can read some of the pages in the book, including the HDN chapter, via Google Books.

Cool version of "Across The Universe".
Robert, that's some great stuff. Thanks. Oh, and ditto MushMouth's comment.
Posted On: Saturday, Feb. 28 2009 @ 1:03PMnot sure what I was trying to say last night, but would like to add, how did the Beatles estate manage to miss out on the download craze? they had done a great job marketing/repackaging the music, especially the 'One' cd that brought them to a younger audience and a trend that continues in marketing today. kids still discover them but it seems the Beatles estate is missing out on an entire generation.
Posted On: Saturday, Feb. 28 2009 @ 2:09PM@ChrisU - I think it has more to do with EMI than the estates and Apple Corps.
Posted On: Saturday, Feb. 28 2009 @ 2:29PMRobert,
Thanks for the link. Great stuff. I'm pretty sure it has been/is being remastered for a release. The quality is not "transfer" from an old tape, it's been cleaned, not that a talented engineer working in the shadows couldn't do it, but I suspect it's a "leak" for a larger stash of product coming our way soon. I certainly hope so.
