Since mercenary lawyers hold atty client privilege we'll never see that FB's own lawyers sternly objected to these new laws. They warned that they would lead to a cascade of law suits. To avoid conflict of interest, these lawyers refused to defend FB in court.
The FB mayor has been playing the basest political games, and in the name of conservative values has relegated the legacy costs of his stupid political agenda on this small hamlet for decades.

Interesting information. Is this something you guess, or does this come from some insider information you may have?
I understand you not being able to identify it if that's the case. I'm just wondering if there's solid info behind your statement.
Posted On: Monday, Feb. 9 2009 @ 10:00AMNumerous legal eagles have stated the laws would be challanged in court. It's a no brainer. FB's mayor may or may not had been warned by city attorneys but plenty of folks knew it would happen. Last week I heard FB was spending a lot more than it could handle and was quickly amassing huge legal bills. Sooooooooo...good luck with all that.
Posted On: Monday, Feb. 9 2009 @ 10:21AMAs usual, the assholes who can't justify their support of illegals try to change the subject by whining about the legal bills that are caused by the illegals they support.....good luck with all that.
Posted On: Monday, Feb. 9 2009 @ 10:28AMThe jr. partner for Boyle and Lowry formally stated as much on NPR. Boyle and Lowry did indeed advise FB on this among many issues. As I understand it, this relationship continues.
Posted On: Monday, Feb. 9 2009 @ 10:36AMWell, in my world, our Southern border would be much more legally open and most of those who are "illegals" now would be legal and have a path to citizenship.
But regardless, the legal bills aren't caused by the "illegals". There's nothing that says that Farmers Branch has to pass laws that are quite possibly unconstitutional. The city isn't required to become an arm of the federal government and try to handle the civil immigration issues all by themselves. Many other cities have managed to not get themselves embroiled in such lawsuits by simply not passing laws that are very probably unconstitutional (or, if not, are certainly questionable enough to invite a legal challenge).
Posted On: Monday, Feb. 9 2009 @ 10:48AMDefending illegal immigrants is very fashionable these days, but these same defenders tend to look the other way when faced with the economic impact, and that's something I don't understand. Bottom line - this is YOUR money. The report below was written by the Center for Immigration Studies in 2002. It's worth reading.
____________________________________________
Households headed by illegal aliens imposed more than $26.3 billion in costs on the federal government in 2002 and paid only $16 billion in taxes, creating a net fiscal deficit of almost $10.4 billion, or $2,700 per illegal household.
Among the largest costs are Medicaid ($2.5 billion); treatment for the uninsured ($2.2 billion); food assistance programs such as food stamps, WIC, and free school lunches ($1.9 billion); the federal prison and court systems ($1.6 billion); and federal aid to schools ($1.4 billion).
With nearly two-thirds of illegal aliens lacking a high school degree, the primary reason they create a fiscal deficit is their low education levels and resulting low incomes and tax payments, not their legal status or heavy use of most social services.
On average, the costs that illegal households impose on federal coffers are less than half that of other households, but their tax payments are only one-fourth that of other households.
Many of the costs associated with illegals are due to their American-born children, who are awarded U.S. citizenship at birth. Thus, greater efforts at barring illegals from federal programs will not reduce costs because their citizen children can continue to access them.
If illegal aliens were given amnesty and began to pay taxes and use services like households headed by legal immigrants with the same education levels, the estimated annual net fiscal deficit would increase from $2,700 per household to nearly $7,700, for a total net cost of $29 billion.
Costs increase dramatically because unskilled immigrants with legal status -- what most illegal aliens would become -- can access government programs, but still tend to make very modest tax payments.
Although legalization would increase average tax payments by 77 percent, average costs would rise by 118 percent.
The fact that legal immigrants with few years of schooling are a large fiscal drain does not mean that legal immigrants overall are a net drain -- many legal immigrants are highly skilled.
The vast majority of illegals hold jobs. Thus the fiscal deficit they create for the federal government is not the result of an unwillingness to work.
The results of this study are consistent with a 1997 study by the National Research Council, which also found that immigrants' education level is a key determinant of their fiscal impact.
Generating an antagonism between Anglos and Hispanics is not the way to go.
And yet, here he is, defending people who don't even have the decency to enter this country legally and generating antagonism between anglos and hispanics.
This is a state, if it's not already, will soon be, a state where the majority of the people in our community ... are of Hispanic origin
And why is that? Oh, that's right, because they're streaming across the border illegally and disingenuous assholes like this are defending them.
Posted On: Monday, Feb. 9 2009 @ 11:48AMDavid says:
As usual, the assholes who can't justify their support of illegals try to change the subject by whining about the legal bills that are caused by the illegals they support.....good luck with all that.
--------------------------------------------
I may be one of the "assholes" you speak of David, I don't know since you didn't have the balls to direct it towards anybody. And as par for someone of your intellect you make an assertion that is wrong. I don't support illegal immigration and I don't support a mayor stupid enough to put the financial stability of the city he is governing in jeopardy in this economic climate. Who do you think is going to pay those bills? You if you live in FB its going to be YOU, not the illegals. So what the Mayor of FB is basically doing is just adding on the cost of having illegals in his town. Real smart. He should run for Congress.
Posted On: Monday, Feb. 9 2009 @ 12:44PMLakewooder your study is flawed and partisan. The GAO and the State of Texas comptroller each issued reports stating that illegals represent a net gain of 17 billion to the state of Texas alone.
They aren't coming over here to collect social security checks, in fact, those very illegals are far more likely to pay into social security without ever getting their benefits.
If we simply look at the health care problem, it is simply cheaper to GIVE them health care than to let them languor in disease and disrepair. They tend to interact with us, as they came here to work ostensibly for us.
Again Lakewooder this problem is quite politicized and generally disingenuously so. If those that bloviate so heartedly over this issue could simply demand papers of those they hire. The corporations who've institutionalized this practice are seldom brought out for scrutiny or boycott. No, this is racism disguised as political dialogue and fatuous to boot.
I am not necessarily impugning your motives but those who've offered your data. Where does your data struggle to assess the value they offer? Or, is their brown and illegal nature all that need be known?
Those who support free market principles and believe in the capitalist system should advocate for transparency and accountability through and through. What about the Army who has relied quite heavily on illegals and other immigrants willing to do the discounted mercenary tour of the Middle East in exchange for papers.
Papers or no they are humans worthy of dignity. So long as there is work that can be done that is not being done by Americans at prices Americans are willing to pay we will have others coming here surreptitiously to labor in our fields. In this they share in the legacy of all European immigrants.
For what Dutchman, or Englishman attained approval from the Iroquois and the other nations here before setting off? Or was that some external invasion of land. At least these guys aren't taking the land by force.
Of course, if the Indians had offered free health care to the Colonists perhaps Smallpot wouldn't have devastated the indigenous population. Of course this controversial topic relates to whether they should be allowed to rent an apt. if they can pass a felony check. Illegal entry to the US is not a felony.
Posted On: Monday, Feb. 9 2009 @ 12:46PM"I may be one of the "assholes" you speak of David, I don't know since you didn't have the balls to direct it towards anybody."
It's pretty obvious you're one of the assholes i was referring to since i mocked your comment, you're just too ignorant to recognize that. And your second comment is just more of the same whining about the legal bills. Funny how people like you are always claiming not to support illegals, but you never want to do anything about them and constantly complain about the people who do try and do something about them.
Posted On: Monday, Feb. 9 2009 @ 12:59PMIf you ever need a clear example of why Dallas has become the worthless pile of shit it is today, just read the comments from the illegal supporters.
Posted On: Monday, Feb. 9 2009 @ 1:08PMOk David. do something for me. Tell me what should be done about the illegals in FB? Or in general?
Or better yet, how is the city going to pay? You seem to think the legal bills the city is accumulating is OK. Am I right? I am also assuming you are a Conservative and as a true Conservative you don't like Gov't spending/Taxes. So again, please explain.............how will those bills be paid?
I keep hearing about illegals who "pay into social security without receiving their benefits". Who are those people? I doubt any of the people I see doing day labor, landscaping or construction are paying into social security, but they are using our emergency rooms for free healthcare. On the other hand, I've been paying into social security for over 30 years, and don't expect to ever get a dime of that money back. Those people are me!
Posted On: Monday, Feb. 9 2009 @ 1:16PMGee, Toots, i wonder why you keep trying to make this about the legal bills? Oh that's right, because it's a shell game and here's how it works in three easy steps -
1) Supporters of illegal immigrants do everything they can to keep the borders open and allow people to enter this country illegally
2) Once the illegals are here, scum like Bill Brewer defend them for free, driving up the legal bills of legal residents
3) Illegal supporters then whine that the cost of dealing with illegals is too much, so illegals get to stay here and the shell game is complete.
Posted On: Monday, Feb. 9 2009 @ 1:26PMWhat a dodge David. I will say it again; I don't support illegal immigrants. OK? I also think the Mayor of FB is stupid.
Now will you answer my questions? Tell me what should be done about the illegals in FB? Or in general? Or better yet, how is the city going to pay? You seem to think the legal bills the city is accumulating is OK. Am I right?
Posted On: Monday, Feb. 9 2009 @ 1:42PMDavid, who supported this? I do think much of this is inevitable but I deny your first premise.
1) Supporters of illegal immigrants do everything they can to keep the borders open and allow people to enter this country illegally
You should be giddy now, since the economy is tanking, illegals are going back to Mexico. Of course we could end this stupid drug war which is devastating Mexico as we speak.
I'm sorry, but I believe all people are endowed by their creator with certain, I dunno, call 'em, Inalienable rights. Extending/Defending those rights to non-papered immigrants is admirable in my mind. I'm sorry you have such contempt for these people you'd call their defenders "scum." But hey, I appreciate your honesty.
Posted On: Monday, Feb. 9 2009 @ 1:45PM"What a dodge David. I will say it again; I don't support illegal immigrants. OK? I also think the Mayor of FB is stupid."
And in one sentence, you confirm everything i just said. Keep playing that game.
Posted On: Monday, Feb. 9 2009 @ 1:51PMNow will you answer my questions, David? Tell me what should be done about the illegals in FB? Or in general? Or better yet, how is the city going to pay? You seem to think the legal bills the city is accumulating is OK. Am I right?
Posted On: Monday, Feb. 9 2009 @ 3:33PMThe answer is very simple. Enforce the laws on the books requiring employers to verify that prospective employees are legal to work in the USA. If employers break the law, they need to pay heavy fines and/or go to jail.
Posted On: Monday, Feb. 9 2009 @ 4:02PMToots: Real smart. He should run for Congress.
What do you think he is doing? Knitting socks? He started down this path as just a council member with the goal of becoming mayor, which he did. Now he has his eye on other offices, maybe on the state level, maybe on the Federal level, but know for certain that he is unlikely to be content to remain merely a suburban mayor. The $2 million FB is under water on this issue could be called an expensive contribution on the part of FB tax payers for his future campaign.
The tax payers of FB are merely stepping stones on a path to his perceived glory.
Randy's right of course, the problem is the laws requiring employment verification were enacted with the '86 immigration act if i remember right. They weren't enforced then and i don't see many people at the federal or state level going out of their way to enforce it now.
If no one at the federal or state level will do anything about illegal immigration, it's left up to cities like Farmers Branch to take care of the problem themselves. Which brings us full circle to the shell game illegal supporters and lawyers like Bill Brewer play.
Posted On: Monday, Feb. 9 2009 @ 4:36PM'anonymous' I would bet all your high-minded ideals would vanish the instant your driveway is blocked and you hear gunshots from the 20 people crammed in the house next door.
Posted On: Monday, Feb. 9 2009 @ 4:55PMSo Randy, the vast numbers of people who have Mexicans mowing their yards, cleaning their houses, clearing their tables do they all deserve to be locked up? Should we have a massive police presence? Randy, who mows your yard?
Posted On: Monday, Feb. 9 2009 @ 4:56PMAnonymous, I did a little research and found nothing to support what you stated above. I'm not saying you're incorrect... I'm only saying I can't find the data/studies. Also, for the record, the Center for Immigration Studies is not opposed to immigration. Their stance, and I paraphrase, is: fewer immigrants arriving with a softer landing.
Anonymous, there are 100's of millions, if not billions of people on this planet that would like to live in the United States. We can't accomodate everyone that wants to live here.
Posted On: Monday, Feb. 9 2009 @ 4:59PMAnonymous: As a matter fact of fact, I mow my own yard. Frankly, I need the exercise unlike the rest of my neighbors (who get their exercise golfing). As a teenager, I made money mowing my neighbors' yards, delivering papers, washing cars and cleaning out garages when I was too young to get any other job. I couldn't get a real job until I turned fifteen. Now our yards are mowed by dozens of illegal immigrants hauled around in the beds of pick-up trucks. Is this progress? Do you enjoy seeing the poor and uneducated from countless other countries doing menial labor while our youth sit at home with their playstations? Does that look healthy to you? Is that anyway to instill a work ethic in our society? I think any law worth enacting is worth enforcing because otherwise, what's the point?
Posted On: Monday, Feb. 9 2009 @ 9:41PMRandy, All I know is I can't get those kids to work. So, I have work to do, the customers don't care and I have to build a crew. Anyone doing landscaping with papers has a criminal background, a drug problem or is a kid available for 3 months.
So, I have a regular job for someone. I need them to be excited. I'd like to pay more, charge more, but competition bars me from doing so. Again, until the consumers show a preference for documented workers there will be no market for such.
If you argue that I should not do landscape work, then you've relegated ALL of this work to illegals. Again, all it takes is the consumer to voice their trouble. Or, are low cost services more important?
Posted On: Tuesday, Feb. 10 2009 @ 10:10AMAnonymous (aka Scott): I can't offer any advice for your landscaping business. When I was growing up in the Dallas during the 1970's, everybody in my neighborhood did their own lawns. I can't explain how or why society has changed or whether playstations will doom western civilisation. I've got a neighbor who has a tree pruning business that appears to employ illegals. I've often wondered what it must be like to run a business that couldn't operate inside the law.
On the other hand, I'm gainfully employed as a mechanical engineer for a local company that employs legal immigrants from many countries including India, Mexico, Germany, Canada, England, Pakistan, China, and South Africa. We can't hire people who do not have papers because our human resources department follows all federal employment laws.
Posted On: Tuesday, Feb. 10 2009 @ 12:06PMDoes this shit for brains white supremicist realize that farmers branch is a small step up from a shit filled sewar?
Did anyone tell him the people of his city are broke and need money whatever way they can get it and that these "meskins" he is so worried about have already hit the trail back to Mexico?
Protecting Farmers Branch from mexkins....is like putting a fence around a cemetary.
Posted On: Tuesday, Feb. 10 2009 @ 2:21PMProtecting Farmers Branch from mexkins....is like putting a fence around a cemetary.
Then you don't need to worry about it do you, you worthless piece of shit. Just go to your obama house party and pretend like you don't support government sanctioned discrimination against whites and you don't preach hatred against Christians and revel in your self delusion, fuckwit.
Posted On: Tuesday, Feb. 10 2009 @ 2:46PMThat is a fine example of the type of turds that live in FB. Really it is like our own little Appalachia over there.
Bush belongs in Farmers Branch with the rest of the hicks and whores.
I am so sorry that some lawyers, like you, seem to be out for the almight dollar. I can't believe you are supporting the illegal immigrants and at the same time saying that soon the majority of the people are of hispanic origin. I have a hispanic dtr-n-law, she and all the family have worked hard, does not feel the gov. owes them anything These people should be a citizen of the US, learn english and pay taxes like all americans are required to do. While you are getting a large amount to represent these people, I hope you will think of my children who can hardy make ends meet, have to pay highly for their insurance, because they are AMERICAN and get free medical as the illegals, and by the way as senior adults, we have to pay dearly for a supplement to our medicare. I will pray for you to have a change of heart. Dorthy a US CITIZEN.
