he's been forgotten in Nashville, don't let it happen here!
Posted On: Tuesday, Feb. 10 2009 @ 10:29AMNashville has forgotten other things like great songs and country music.
Posted On: Tuesday, Feb. 10 2009 @ 11:26AMCP is a real Texas asset. I have seen him disappear as history is written with a white face. The diversity that has always existed in Texas music is what makes it unique and enduring.
There is a fabulous history that needs to be written about Texas Music. From the Latin roots of the very German Doug Sahm, to Blaze Foley and Townes Van Zandt. Charlie Pride fits in well with the Outlaws Willie, Waylon and Kris. He was never the minstrel show that Sammie Davis was. He was always taken seriously and always belonged.
Texas has a wonderful and mixed history. Simple caricature looses the vitality that Texas holds.
"You just cain't live in Texas, if don't have a lot of soul" Doug Sahm
Posted On: Tuesday, Feb. 10 2009 @ 1:44PMRandomly met Mr. Pride at a local car shop. Nice man, with a great sense of humor.
Posted On: Tuesday, Feb. 10 2009 @ 2:48PMZac Crain's story about Charley Pride last year was a poignant and thorough revelation.
The man has sold 70 million records in his life and most people in Dallas have no idea that he lives here.
Posted On: Tuesday, Feb. 10 2009 @ 2:52PMIt is great to see Charlie Pride getting some of the recognition he deserves. Some of my earliest memories involve my father listening to Charlie Pride, Hank Williams Sr., and Conway Twitty.
Posted On: Tuesday, Feb. 10 2009 @ 3:06PMOh, man, I loved "Kiss an Angel Good Morning." I am so ready to see Charley Pride get some recognition in place of the little twerps that Nashville fawns over today. So ready. Nothing against the new kids, but will anyone really remember their songs or their interchangeable voices 30-40 years from now?
Posted On: Tuesday, Feb. 10 2009 @ 3:55PMPride has received numerous awards and recognitions, both in Texas and elsewhere, including the Texas Medal of Arts (2003), and well as induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame (2000). The post above by Scott is rather unfair to "Sammie" (sic) Davis, who was a remarkable entertainer and whose success opened many doors for artists such as Charley Pride. Nor does Scott seem to understand minstrelsy too well, either. He writes with such certainty but is so clueless. To get a clue consider reading Nick Tosches' book "Where Dead Voices Gather", and Elijah Wald's "Escaping the Delta".
