Who Doesn't Have Something at Arts Magnet With Their Name On It?

btw_building.jpgDuring today's closed-door meeting of the Dallas Independent School District board, the trustees will tell superintendent Michael Hinojosa whether or not they, ya know, trust the dude. As in: The board will "deliberate the appointment, employment, evaluation, reassignment, duties, discipline, or dismissal of a public officer or employee; including evaluation of the performance of the Superintendent of Schools." Ron "No Confidence" Price sneak-peeks his evaluation: As he tells KTVT-Channel 11, "We cannot continue down this road of scandal, after scandal, after scandal."

Since today's shindig isn't open to the pubic, how about this preview of tomorrow's meeting, where there's but a single item on the agenda: approving names for bits and pieces of the recently revamped Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. Usually, you can't get your name on a classroom without making at least a $1 million "major capital donation," but the board's willing to make exceptions. For whom? Says the who's-who before the board, folks like John Scovell, Neiman Marcus CEO Burt Tansky, the Wyly family, the Richards Group, Ross and Margot Perot, JP Morgan Chase, CB Richard Ellis -- you name it. Ron Kirk's also getting the Ron Kirk Academic Wing, courtesy a million-dollar donation from John and Lyn Muse. --Robert Wilonsky
